Pro-Palestine group protests outside Israeli real estate event in New York

Demonstration against an estate event featuring properties for sale in the occupied West Bank is the second protest in six months.

Daniel Khalili-Tari

al-Jazeera: 6 May 2026

About 100 pro-Palestinian protesters have gathered outside a New York synagogue for the second time in six months to demonstrate against an Israeli real estate event featuring properties for sale in the occupied West Bank.

Under international law, Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are illegal.

An Intercept reporter who attended Tuesday’s event said the expo’s website referenced Gush Etzion, a cluster of settlements southeast of Jerusalem. One company at the event displayed properties in the settlements of Kfar Eldad and Karnei Shomron, among others, according to the reporter.

During Tuesday’s expo at the Park East Synagogue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) accused organisers of intentionally holding the event at a religious site.

“Not only is the refusal to sell property to anyone based on their race or national origin unlawful, the properties involved in these sales are built on stolen Palestinian land,” the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee said in a statement in 2024 as it lodged a complaint with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Justice against the expos.

That year, the New Jersey Civil Rights Division reportedly questioned the organisers of an expo in West Orange, New Jersey, after attendees said they were asked to provide detailed information on their religious affiliation, including the synagogue they attend and the name of their rabbi.

In a post on X, the group said the move gives the appearance of the protests being anti-Jewish as opposed to being against the sale of properties on occupied land.

The JVP said the event is “racist, exclusionary, and perpetuates the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians”.

“Yet again, these events are attempting to cynically shield themselves from protest by holding their sales at a synagogue,” the group said. “No one should enable the sale of stolen land, let alone a religious institution.”

Is it illegal for Americans to buy land from Arabs in Judea ?

Those same Arabs can buy land in the USA .

Selling Land to Israelis: A Capital Crime in the Palestinian Authority | HonestReporting

www/honestreporting.com/selling-land-to-israelis-a-capital-crime-in-the-palestinian-authority/

It is illegal for Palestinians to sell land to Jews under Palestinian law, which considers such transactions treasonous and can impose severe penalties, including the death penalty. This prohibition is enforced to protect Palestinian national interests and prevent the expansion of Israeli settlements.

New York appears to be a stronghold for Hamas.

Your one sided inanity amazes me sometimes.

Do you think West Bank settlements are for Mormons?

Before you try to straw man me, I've said many times I'm opposed to the west bank settlement movement.

Its expansion makes the only real hope for a peaceful solution for both sides -- two states -- even harder to make a reality.

While I was previously for a 2 state solution, it's starting to become clear that it won't be needed, Israel will slowly run out of support and run itself into the ground before its 100th birthday.

As for such WB real estate:

Real estate firms are actively marketing residential land plots and homes in Israeli settlements within the West Bank to Jewish buyers, with sales events often held in the US and Canada. Major companies involved include CapitIL, Home in Israel, My Home in Israel, and Noam Homes, promoting properties in areas like Efrat, Ma'ale Adumim, and Gush Etzion.

Targeted Sales Events: Marketing events frequently occur at synagogues and community centers in New York, New Jersey, and Montreal, targeting Jewish individuals interested in purchasing, sometimes framed as "land redemption".

  1. Purchasing Mechanism: While direct individual purchases of private land by Israelis are restricted under local law, sales are facilitated through companies registered with the Civil Administration's registry. Marketing firms claim these investments are legal and protected.

  2. Controversy and Legal Status: These settlements are widely considered illegal under international law, and these sales have met with significant protest from activists and some community members who argue they involve the sale of occupied Palestinian land.

Disclaimer: Note that international law, along with many countries, considers settlements in the West Bank to be illegal.

Guess that hasn't worked, eh. So Israeli colonists, police, border police, undercover police, IDF and IDF reservists might call killing Palestinians a pre-emptive death penalty.

No.

Will priority be given to those Jews that excel at stone throwing?

Reports from 2025 and 2026 indicate a "two-tier" enforcement approach by the Israeli military in the West Bank, where soldiers are authorized to use lethal force against Palestinians for stone-throwing, but rarely apply the same measures to Israeli settlers engaged in similar acts.

Two-Tiered Enforcement: Israeli Central Command Chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth acknowledged that the army acts differently toward Jewish settlers.

  1. Increased Lethal Force (Palestinians): Bluth reported that in 2025, Israeli forces killed 42 Palestinians for throwing stones.

  2. Impunity for Settlers: Reports show that in many cases of settler violence, soldiers stand by or fail to intervene, even when settlers throw stones at Palestinians.

  3. "Sociological Considerations": The distinction in treatment is justified by military command, despite acknowledging it is a form of "discrimination".

  4. Operational Directives: While written instructions allowed for shooting at Palestinians throwing stones, soldiers on the ground report that treating a Jewish settler the same way—by stopping or shooting them—is not expected, and they often only yell at them.

There's a war going on .

Of course the enemy will be treated differently to your side .

Palestine V Israel .

Neither side treats the enemy as they do their own .

The whole Expo is a proof of to which unbelievable extend Israel has corrupted law and moral in the US.

Imagine a property expo saying "we only sell land to white people."

Not to mention that they are officially selling stolen land in plain sight.

The impunity.

And some people still wonder "Where does all that antisemitism come from?"

I’m oddly you didn’t address the questions I asked.

As if racist Jew haters ever needed an excuse.

As if racist Jew hatred didn't exist before Israel.

By your "logic" everyone should have racist hatred against all Arabs because Arabs on the west bank can't sell any land to any Jew on penalty of death.

Not that it makes it right, but the conditions on the west bank are quite specific to the west bank.
