Full moon parties - anyone been lately ?

Featured Replies

You will not notice the Full Moon parties on Koh Phangan unless you go to certain parts of the island when it is busy because of the Full Moon or Black Moon parties.

Most of the island is still quiet if you stay away from those areas. And the good part, at the beaches we stayed, there where afternoon parties, that usually ended before 8 in the evening.

Best beach depending on season, and if you have a ride, you have all options to go where you want when you want.

You ask a lot of questions that are answered, but you never answer a question posed to you. People do notice this.

The plan is to ride around. They probably are boring without a gf. Why i travel with her.

I went to FMP2 years ago.

I read a book about techno music and learn that music snobs Call it electronic music. And then there was a whole lot about Bowie, Kraftwerk and disco that serves as it’s roots.

I like all that music, so I had a little dip into it as well as sampling.U2’s much hated Pop album which was pretty tuneful pretty tuneful.

Like rap, it’s not for me, but I can appreciate the talent of it. It’s all about pushing a beat to its absolute limit, and then having an ecstatic break, which would certainly be massively improved by ecstasy and what other crap they are taking.

Like disco, it is music that is really strictly for dancing, not for sitting in a chair and listening to and appreciating. On those grounds, it succeeds very well.

One of the big pioneers of this second or third generation was playing the FM P, so with a younger friend, I went.

I got a cheap concrete bunker of a room about five minutes away from the famous beach where they do it; now they want ฿200 to go on the beach, anyone used to be able to go on for free.

Since I do like my sleep, I nipped in and out of it, making perhaps four visits throughout the long night. It was like a garden variety rave like I used to go to back in England when I lived there.

People dancing, wearing funny hats, and lots of body paint. Every hotel has a sign of saying they will check the room before you leave to make sure you didn’t get body paint on the sheets.

It was not the frenzied, crazy dangerous thing that I keep reading about on the Interne;, it was a party, and if you like that kind of music, which I guess I do now a little tiny bit, it’s supposed to be the best place in the world to see it.

I don’t love opera, but if I was going to Italy, I would pop in and see one. I also went to a couple of similar events in Chiang Mai by a waterfall.

For me, though, ithe FMPwas a one and done. Many people only take this kind of vacation, around the world. It’s a little bit like the Grateful Dead in that They all seem to know each other and turn up at the same events.

My research told me that the parties, the two or three nights before before are the real events that the deep fans love more.

So I went to one for house music, and one for jungle music, which seemed to be house music with more drums in it. It takes a lot to distinguish the hairline differences between the genres, but I guess I would consider myself a jungle, or drum and bass fan, and bought a great looking T-shirt with the word jungle In graffiti script on the front.

Since people like my stories Of famous people I met in New York City back in the day, I had a brief friendship with The famous graffiti artist, keith Haring. I do enjoy that kind of art and consider it sort of the last good idea in modern art that non-intellectuals could appreciate and enjoy. It was everywhere at the FMP, and I could see going to it just to buy great T-shirts

I was enjoying reading about deeply retarded, misrememberings about the facts of my life in another thread, by you know who, so let me toss that mangy dog a bone for another goofy and gormless attack of the road:

I did in fact, hook up with a dreadlocked old German woman, about 60. Yeah she was white, what of it?

She was with her boyfriend, but he did not want to go to the jungle show, so we went together and then rolled around in some bushes and jerked each other off. Can’t fault it, nice person, a devout Hindu.

She gave me a copy of her book called why you should never wear shoes. If there’s any interest, I will be happy to tell her stated reason for that belief.

She liked my book and she met someone who I mentioned in my own book when she went to Laos, but then she faded away as these things do.

She would be welcome in my guest bedroom anytime. I think because we didn’t actually have intercourse, it would be OK with my straight arrow banker Thai GF

-who moved in with me this week.

Bogan, get your autisticspreadsheet out to note the details of my life and try to do a better job of remembering them.

His garbled recounting of my life in Thailand is proof that he doesn’t listen to a word that anyone says here.

he’s just here because insects are scratching inside his skull and he has to vent. He doesn’t remember any of us or anything We ever say. he’s just here out of a sad OCD compulsion.

But if people wanna talk about rave culture, and what people are doing with it in Thailand, I’d be happy to have that discussion

If you like this conversational backwater for a few laughs, please join me and not letting him derail this interesting topic

Thats a honest opinion, but you are not a fan of Islands, so

It was lots of fun in the early 90's, when it wasn't so crowded, and most of the attendees were Dive Masters, Dive Instructors, and other foreigners working or staying on Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, and Koh Samui. There wasn't much nightlife on Koh Tao in those days (no electricity on the island back then, except generators for dive videos), so once a month we'd head to Koh Phangan to party.

Big size difference too. Samui has more to offer. I worry it's too commercial.

Yeah, it is true, Lamai is my favorite beach on Samui. To much traffic other places, and used to hang out there a few days before moved on when I did fly in.

So Lamai is not too busy? They seem to have the best range of rooms plus nice beach.

Not aware of the situation there for many years either, I have found my places at Koh Phangan and see no reasons to go back to Koh Samui or Koh Tao when we bring our car and motorbikes.

Used to stay here front row for less than 1200 baht a night.

Very strange post. You are asking a forum populated mainly by old retirees who think “a wild night out” means staying awake past 9 PM about Full Moon Parties on KPN? What’s next, asking them for the best technique to lose your flip flops, eat magic mushrooms, then black out, and wake up spooning a redbull vodka bucket on the beach with half of Thailand’s sand in your panties while trying to figure out which of your regrettable tattoos seemed like a brilliant idea at 3 AM?

You stay up past 9pm? 😱

I spent two weeks on Koh Tao -or”Tao” in autism speak- two years ago.

At a resort of old wooden teak buildings right up the steep road from the main drag intersection, near the famous duck restaurant.

Like all of them, you need to go with a chill plan because there’s not really much to do beyond day three in such a place. It was great to be in a scuba resort and not be a scuba person. During the day, I had a little town to myself.

Beyond that strip, there’s the usual craggy viewpoint and mediocre temple. But I like my stay and ate at the duck restaurant or the Italian restaurant further up the hill on alternate nights. I read 3000 pages of the sermons and sutras of Buddha.

Zen Beach in “Phagn” is the best mix of chill, decent restaurants and a bit of a social scene.

Yes, they have a cheap gym. and a large AND a small 7-Eleven. Grab cab fares are “good”. Just to save someone else here the effort.

A four star Indonesian restaurant in a modern decor restaurant was my dinner of choice. The steam table they put out in the morning was in my top four yellow crab meat curries. But gristle laden meat on a stick is also available to those whose budget makes that their best dinner option.

I spent 10 days there and did all the stuff like getting quartz crystals placed to my body, getting a private sound bath, and going to somatic breathing workshops. These kinds of spa experiences would cost 10 times as much back in California.

I asked Chatgpt for an opinion. It reckons BSN is better than KPN.

They are two very different experiences and not really comparable.

Koh Phangan is an island with several beaches and good water quality in many areas. Which side is best depends on the time of year, wind, tide and season, but there is almost always somewhere suitable for swimming.

Bang Saphan Noi is a quiet mainland place, but as a beach destination, there is hardly a proper beach to swim at. You can swim, of course, but I would not think of comparing it with Koh Phangan.

Also, in my mind, Koh Phangan has almost everything you need: hospitals, supermarkets, very good restaurants, gyms and plenty of oter options. The downside there is some very brutal rainstorms, but honestly that goes for Prachuap and Chumphon as well, and if you are flexible, you can move with the season on Koh Phangan.
