kasikorn bank

Featured Replies

Ok

I am now not in Thailand, back in the uk

It seems now kasikorn bank have decided that to log in on the website, you will now need to open their app,, use that to scan a code.

but to use the app, everyone needs to go to their local bank and have a new photo taken and to fill in some data form.

when i clicked on the app, it told me, I had to update my photo and had 15 days to do so.

But being I am in the uk, I am concerned what will happen after the 15 days. Its impossible for me to get there in 15 days.

I have heard and read stories where others who banked with other banks, have had their accounts closed and am worried this will happen to me.

I have tried to contact them, but all they keep telling me, go onto the app and contact the support. which obviously , I can not do.

has anyone else who is not now in thailand and has to get their photo done,, had any problems,,, was there a time restriction.

did they freeze or close the accounts,,

I am very worried about this.

I have just had to pay for the flight, visa , just to get this photo done.. do not want to get there to find out, sorry , we closed your account

Facial recognition is the most secure way of protecting your money and everything else online. You shouldn’t be scared of technological advances.

Yes Kasikorn have recently brought this new requirement in for everyone..it is a bit of a pain.

I doubt very much that they will close your account..maybe freeze it

but more likely you will just not be able to access the account

online...usually they don't freeze an account until a long period of inactivity then you have to go to the branch and provide your details to get it reinstated...unless you are not able to get back to Thailand for a long time I would not worry too much although it is very inconvenient.

If you really need to log into their website you have a problem. They are over-reacting to some suggestions from the BoT but not all banks are doing the same.

I live 1km from a branch and have several accounts with them but the money will be moved to another bank that does not have the same problem. Last week I went to the branch to update my new passport and the clerk insisted on doing a photo ID shot at an angle thorough a perspect screen. Goodness knows how to duplicate that on a phone.

I have no intention of using facial recognition until they drag me there kicking and screaming. The old systems worked perfectly well for me.

Sorry about the rant, has been on my mind ever since the change was made.

Ring them and tell them you are out of country, see what they say

I don't think they will close your account, but there won't be a way to resolve it from abroad either, so you'll effectively remain locked out until you return.

actually no point doing that as you haven't got any secure password or anything they can accept over the phone to identify yourself, just saying your name won't cut it

I had this last week. I downloaded the app followed the instructions and took a selfie photo as they tell you to do, a bit of messing around there but eventually it was accepted. I did not have to visit my bank. They want everyone on the app with facial recognition or at least that's what it seemed to me. I then signed into my account online without any problems.

PS I got a little help from the more patient wife who has it on her phone already.

I got the same request from Kbank to setup my facial recognition at my branch. I am half-way around the globe but I am still able to bank using my K+ application on my phone. I set up all my bill payments (PEA and PWA) with automatic withdrawals from my bank account. When the billing is done at the meter it shows up in my utilities payment to be done. Same for internet and phone. K+ uses internet as well as cellular messaging (SMS) so it’s fairly safe and you don’t need to go through the web browser.

Just make sure you have a valid SIM card (not expired and with a balance on it).

Like OP, I am out of the country, have the app but can't log in.

However, I return on 24th June so will go to the branch near me.

I assume that my KBank ATM will still work and only on-line access is lost?

Will post my results on here for others.

You are correct. I only realized that I had an account problem when I tried to go into the website. The one thing that can screw everything up BIG TIME is your passport. If it is the same one on your account, it is not a big deal, BUT with the new chips in passports, they are a little finicky, and you may have to do that at a bank.

FWIW I was told that there was no change to atm card usage.

@GreasyFingers

When are you planning on coming back to LOS. You might call the CSR and have them annotate your account

I sort of found it interesting when I had to make the change I posted about the lies we were told

Computers will make things easier. Everyone said I was nuts tht it had.

Your account might get blocked for security reasons… I believe, it is difficult to get a competent person on the phone to help out or to at least get the period until blockage extended. Kasikorn has a pretty good working support on LINE, try this way to get your problem forwarded to an internal IT specialist. This helped me once!

PS. After my facial recognition verification, I switched the facial recognition off again, at least for the main daily transactions. Had to pay my shopping at Makro, the facial recognition didn’t like the background and couldn’t verify, error message after error message which was painful. I was running around the hall to find a convenient background until it finally worked out.

Maybe the issue is that you are trying to log in from uk not Thailand.Have you got a VPN that you can use

I always put my vpn to uk and the Kasikorn app didn’t work so had to switch to Thailand

ok,

I with help from a friend in thailand,,

she phoned them +66)2-888-8888

and we spoke via zoom,

If you can not get to thailand to do your photo, you can telephone that number and they will

help you to do it via phone and internet ,

also if you can not get to thailand, the 15 days means they will prevent you from using online ,

They do not freeze, close or prevent use of your card.. It only prevents you from using online facilities

so now i as I have already purchased the flight and visa. I will enjoy a 5 week holiday in thailand.

even if i was not planning too, lol

Was it the K-Biz app ?

Do you already have facial scan on file at your branch ?

So you haven’t considered that it might be that you need to use a VPN and connect to Thailand ?

That is a bummer. Haven't used mine in over a year and planning to go to Thailand in 3 or 4 months. I assume I wont be able to log on on my computer and risk being locked out. Do I risk transferring the holiday money to my account.

I've always been under the impression that fingerprint scans were supposed to be the most secure way. Moreover, unlike facial scans, fingerprint scans are good for life. On the other hand, I can see banks requiring us to update the master facial scans linked to our accounts every couple of years or so as new wrinkles continue forever to appear unbounded on our forever increasingly furrowed brows. Meaning more fun and games, of course, as we struggle to provide updated scans against backgrounds which are either too light or too dark - or maybe even both too light and too dark at the same time! 🤬

you must have some serious wrinkle action happening to require update face due to drasatic facial changes.

AFAIK, what that means is that you can still obtain access to your account by normal sign-in, for up to 15 days, by calling them. Outside that, you need to use the application to sign in. Your account itself should be fine.

I just had the K bank (South Pattaya Road) help me activate the K-Biz app a few days ago. The girls there are very helpful and friendly. The only problem was getting the facial recognition to work but after adding some artificial light it worked well. The K-Biz is (as I see it) mostly for the 2-step authentication when using the K Bank web site. I don't see any function on the K-Biz app that allows for cardless ATM withdrawal, so I just use the K-Plus app which is still fully functional. If you don't use the K Bank web site, you probably don't need the K-biz app as you can monitor your account from the K-Plus app. I'm guessing sometime in the future K-Plus may go away and be replaced with the K-Biz app (IMHO).

there is another thing i discovered a year ago,,, if when outside of thailand,, you have to download the app again, or for the first time. apparently for the very first login,, you have to be in thailand, and yes, I tried using a couple of VPN, and it did not work ,, this is why i have had to use the website for my dealings and not the app

If you cannot sign in normally right now, but you would like/need to do so, you need to call them on +66 2 888 8888. Choosing option 2 for English. Then follow the prompts in order to speak to someone. Request that they unlock your web account in so that you can sign in the usual way, for a short period.

Correct K-Biz is only for 2FA login on a computer.

No I was in Thailand. I doubt there would be an issue if you are outside the country, would they know and would they care. You could always use a VPN.

Got to worth trying.

Personally I hate all this technology but it's everywhere now and it's not going away. Like it or not we are going to have no choice in the increasingly Orewelian world.

I've read many many posts about people having issues installing the app abroad, only one where the person said no issue which is suspicious
