Depends on the bank, if you install the app using data roaming from your thai number it may work ok

Krungsri wouldn't work because they require you to visit branch

  • Yes Kasikorn have recently brought this new requirement in for everyone..it is a bit of a pain. I doubt very much that they will close your account..maybe freeze it but more likely you will just not

Facial recognition is the most secure way of protecting your money and everything else online. You shouldn’t be scared of technological advances.

Technological advances do not scare me. Thailand banks scare me.

I have just remembered one thing that I had to do before I could do the facial registration for Kasikorn. I had to remove my Avast security before I could do it.

Forgotten about that in my first post.

I have a KBank account that I haven't used in 15 months. I don't even know if there is any money in it now so is it still open. I would have gone online to check but seems I wont be able to now. Does anybody know if somebody paid money into the account and the account was closed would the transaction be cancelled or does it go onto the closed or frozen account? I have transferred by Wise some money into it to ensure it does not go overdrawn, assuming it hasn't already done so.

If there's at least 2,000 baht in your account, they won't close it, even if it isn't being used for a prolonged time.

If it does get closed, a money transfer would fail. Wise checks the recipient name against the account holder and that step would have failed if it had been closed already.

If you have a Thai SIM card, you can clear everything up no matter where you are. While registering with the new app, a message will be sent to your Thai number to verify.

Their facial recognition program is not so good, so getting a proper image is cumbersome. The app continually gives instructions, like "lift your head a little" or "look right". The app wants maybe 270 degrees of one's head.

Also, you only need the facial recognition one time. There's an opt-out for subsequent logging in. If that opt-out is chosen, the only time they will require facial recognition in the future is on transactions exceeding 200,000 baht.

Yes, it's a bit of a pain in the backside, but it can be done, provided you can use a Thai SIM. Also, make sure your latest passport is linked to your account. A change does take an in-bank visit, plus the system takes about a week to upgrade to your new Passport #.

If you use a laptop to transact, you go through the on line log in, and a QR code comes up. You then log into the app on your phone and scan the QR code appearing on your laptop. The laptop then intantly switches into your usual KBank interface, though confirmation of any transaction is done by touching a "Confirm" button on the phone. Technology can be labor intensive.
