Most listings will be on FaceBook Market Place...

Looks like you can get a fairly clean one for about 35,000 baht (about 5-6 years old).

Never buy remotely.

Never buy without the Green Book & both sets of keys.

Any doubts - walk.

I asked because in places like chiang mai there are also markets, one big market specifically.

Anyway, you say facebook marketplace is the way to buy in banglamung.

And 35k would be the ongoing rate for a 6 years old wave 125, correct?

While Waves and Supercubs are generally very reliable, they also hold their price well, so a used one can be close to the cost of new.

Worth checking out a new one before buying used. The 110 cc version's new price can be close to a used 125cc price.

Most of what is on fb will be from used bike dealers and not all will post every bike in inventory. A lot of competition for good priced bikes on fb because the dealers are the probably the biggest buyers from private sellers.

Also many of the showrooms will have a second hand section

with traded in or repossessed bikes but the prices wont be as good as from a legitimate private seller..saying that some private sellers ask for stupid money.

Strangely - AN seems to think it was a video link... It was just a facebook Market Place link.

If you have Facebook - Search the exact bike / model you want... see whats available.

That gives you a good picture of the landscape / pricing / ages / condition etc... before you end up putting in any leg work and actually visiting places.

Based one what I saw - 35K looks to be the going rate for a 6 years old wave 125 - I only had a quick glance - you can draw your own conclusions.... some will be private sellers, some will be other dealerships (you can usually tell by the photo quality etc).

As others have said - there will also be plenty of 'motorcycle markets' around - but IMO - its good to have a feel for prices and condition before visiting these places - FB market place gives you a good overview.

The difference between a 5 or 6 year old bike (of which you do not know its history) and a brand new one (35K vs 60K) doesn't seem worth the risk to me so I'd just buy a new one. If you buy private you would also need to deal with whatever bureaucratic nonsense is involved, whereas a dealer will take care of that for you and also handle things like tax renewals etc.

An inspection place displaying this sign

will often offer to deal with the bureaucratic nonsense for a minimal fee...or if feeling particularity masochistic try a bit of D.I.Y its not too bad if you actually have all the required documents which you would have to provide anyway.

I wouldn't buy 5 or 6 years old motorbike from a Thai....! Now a 1 year old bike in good condition maybe okay, but anything older means it was never serviced or looked after properly, trashed around all day long - they even disconnect the odo..., so no idea of real mileage...., you could end up with a lemon..., okay, a Wave can be fully repaired cheaply, but just saying...

I can't see the point of paying 35k for a 6 year old bike (with potential problems) when for not much more you can buy a new one.

If you are going down the second hand road.

Pay 15,000 for an old 10-15 year old wave.

They are bulletproof. why pay more second hand.

Ps. Check frame no and engine no are same as green book.

I ordered my CBR150R there, new, it was 15,000baht cheaper than anywhere in Pattaya, and they delivered it, as ordered, to my door, by truck, with 3km on the clock, one week later. Highly recommended..... but it was a few years ago.

Depends what you want to use a bike for giogio if you want one just for going from a to b id just buy 1 cheap under 20k as long as it doesnt smoke or Rattle and has the greenbook. Check the tyres for wear cracks in the walls, brakes , oil see if it is not watery or black if there ok id buy it.

I'd add ONLY get a bike that has ABS.... some will argue ABS is not necessary for experienced riders... BS

ABS is helpful for anyone - I wouldn't ride here without it - particularly given how greasy the surfaces get at the first rains after a few days.

Agree. Some smaller bikes have ABS for the front wheel only, and that's enough. Locking up the rear wheel is rarely a critical issues, can be useful off road and is fun too. But locking the front wheel often results in crash.

On the used market I think the Yamaha Filano and Aerox may be the cheapest with ABS. While I'd normally recommend Honda for dealer network and reliability, they were slow to provide ABS on smaller bikes, even though all the range had ABS in Western markets.

The Supercubs (except latest disc model) have virtual ABS as the front drum doesn't have enough power to lock the wheel 😂

mt advice for what its worth , stick to the "Wave" and avoid Honda Scoopys and especially the PCX as there is too much to go wrong on them, a Wave will last 20 years plus easily, and as another member has said ,they are virtually indestructible, even for young Thai lads , and that's saying something

I have had a 110 Wave for 22 years never had a problem with it , my wife has inherited a Pcx from the daughter who now lives in Denmark , its only 6 year old and there's been no end of trouble with it , I could never recommend one especially second hand.

Geeze, a foreigner riding a HondaWave, that's the bottom of the barrel.

Stick with a Scoopy if you are small person, PCX if you are big. Honda won't let you down.

"the bottom of the barrel"? What a strange and almost snob like attitude to life .

The honda wave and its predecessor the Cub are the best selling motorcycles in the world, and for good reasons reliability and ease of repair being the main ones,

See how far you get on a scoopy or a PCX when the battery is flat, or one of the,many sensors is playing up. It might be ok living in one of the tourist ghettos or a large city but anybody living out in the sticks or considering frequenting remote areas should give the matter some thought ,

Riding a wave is admittedly not the pinnacle of motorcycling experience but it beats pushing a PCX or a Scoopy or anything else down the hard shoulder in the blazing sun any day of the week, less plastic to replace when the "inevitable" happens too
