Not at all. I'm the most padantic (sic) person I know!

I opened mine when I was on a trip to the UK & used my Parents address (where I was staying at the time) stating I was only temporarily resident in the UK (Which was True) but was a Tax Resident in Thailand (Provided them with my TIN) - No problems.

Advised a mate of mine to do the same and he set it all up from Thailand using his father's address then picked up his debit card (optional but very useful when travelling) when he went for a visit.

Can't recommend them highly enough.

Most of us don't 'officially' reside in Thailand, so no emails and no changes.

  • I would be quaking in my boots right now if I were reliant solely on Wise for correctly-coded monthly ฿65k retirement extension transfers - which, thankfully, I'm not.

Likewise (😁) I received an email back in May saying that they would be in touch for additional information before the end of June. To date, I've not received any requests. It looks as if they are a li

It is good to change GBP to THB when the rate is good, like yesterday's 44.8, keep it in your THB account until you need to send it, same with Wise.

Today 65000 at 44.4 costs you GBP 14 more! There is very little differend between sending GBP or THB in the final sum.

I do this as well, exchanged £3,300 yesterday at 44.66, IIRC XE was showing the mid-market rate at 44.83 & the TT booth across the road was offering 44.60.

Then I either send the THB directly to Thailand or if the rate drops a lot I just switch it back to GBP (Made £60 when the rate dropped down to 43.25 3 weeks back :) )

Wise will accept a number of documents for proof of residency in Thailand.

Thai driving licence

Yellow book

Pink ID card

You original visa sticker with the latest extension stamp.

Right.

Yet, as of today Friday July 10th, Wise has still not sent the email requesting such proof, as well as maybe any other information.

Same here, Registered for Wise using Thai address. Haven't heard anything from Wise from months. No requests for any documents to verify my details/situation.

Still using Wise to transfer my pensions from my UK HSBC bank to my Kasikorn account as normal.

Same with me and it would seem many others as well. I've been a Wise patron for 9 years now, always with a Thai address and sending funds to my Thai bank on a monthly basis. If they don't believe that I live in Thailand by now, they never will!

But I suspect it's the Thai regulators that have to be satisfied, not just Wise. We shall see in due course. No point in getting worried about it.

Should we assume that the upcoming changes will have no effects (will be transparent) when it comes to money transfered to our Wise account by third parties abroad? In other words, all our Wise account coordinates will remain the same?

Don't assume anything.

The way I read it, the most important change (for me anyway) is that people who register with Wise using a Thai address and have their home country pensions paid into their Wise Balance will have those payments automatically converted into THB, I had 2 UK pensions being paid into Wise as GBP and I had to change them to be paid into my UK bank account (to prevent them being auto-converted into THB by Wise) and then manually send from my UK account to my Kasikorn account as normal.

What do you use instead.please. I have used WISE for these transfers for years, and it has always taken until 2pm on the next working day if Long Term Stay was ticked.

I tried last month and now this month with Revolut, which says transfer is via SWIFT, was instant and was coded as an Iternational Transfer. The difference in cost was a couple of quid.

My WISE is registered at my Thai address. No email yet.

Swift wire transfers from your home bank direct to thai bank are always coded properly with documentation on both ends if needed. May not happen in minutes but if people cant wait 1 or 2 days then people may have other issues to consider.

SWIFT = +25-40 pounds extra.

Not really worthwhile.

Nationwide =20 quid and a couple of days. Revolut = FREE and INSTANT. I have done both to prove it.

Wise = 8pounds and Xe exchange rate

SWIFT = 20pounds + worse exchange rate + 500bht for Thai bank

That's why I used, and suggested Revolut.

Got it the other day.

Did a transfer into Wise to move to Thailand and was asked to confirm my address before they allowed the transfer to go through. It was not a large amount, like for buying a condo. They have never asked since the initial set up.

Notification basically said, depending on your input, we may require further information in the form of a proof of address upload.

Gave them the address in my home country, which I gave at set up, and the transfer went through.

Clearly, I am not living in my home country and at that address, but it's also the address my home country bank has for me.

Not sure what it's all about, but dealt with and back to operating as normal.
