Australian Arrested at Bangkok Airport Over Pattaya Murder

Not a day seems to go by without a foreigner doing something, past 3 years the demographics have changed...blame it on DTV, free visa, weed or a combination of all, Thailand really needs to take a long hard look at who they are letting into the country.

Impossible to see in advance if somebody will commit a murder, if they have no antecedents in violent crimes.

Where the differences come from

The most detailed version appears in the Thai-language report by Thairath. It states that after arriving at the condominium:

  • the girl received a telephone call;

  • she told the suspect she could not stay because she was menstruating;

  • she asked to leave;

  • she requested 500 baht as compensation for her time;

  • while he was reaching for the money, she allegedly asked for more than 500 baht;

  • the argument then escalated.

The English-language Thairath article is shorter. It mentions the phone call, wanting to leave, requesting 500 baht, and later demanding more money, but omits the reference to menstruation.

The Khaosod English report is even more condensed. It says:

  • she received a phone call;

  • she wanted to leave;

  • she requested 500 baht;

  • she then demanded more money;

  • an argument followed.

It also omits any mention of menstruation.

Does this mean the reports contradict each other?

Not necessarily.

At present, the available reports suggest that the menstruation statement and the request for more money are not mutually exclusive. The fuller version is:

  1. She received a phone call.

  2. She said she wanted to leave.

  3. She said she was menstruating.

  4. She asked for 500 baht for her time.

  5. She then allegedly requested a higher amount.

  6. An argument followed.

The shorter English reports appear to have condensed the suspect's statement, leaving out the menstruation detail rather than contradicting it.

One important point

Every one of these details comes from the suspect's account during police questioning, not from an independent witness or police finding. Investigators have confirmed CCTV evidence placing the suspect with the victim and transporting the suitcase, but the sequence inside the condominium, including the phone call, menstruation, request for money, alleged knife, and self-defence claim, has not been independently verified in the public reporting so far.

the dude put a dead body in a suitcase . . .

The crime was committed in Thailand. He will be tried, convicted (evidence looks overwhelming) and punished in Thailand. ABC Australia is showing his face.

lucky for him, although the accomodations suck

check the reels from the welcome inn - this is why I posted the screen shots. Deffa's a bit simple

But sharp enough to dispose of the body and head straight to the airport for a the next flight out, then when confronted with the evidence against him, jumped on the self defense band wagon. Maybe not as simple as you think. Although, I did wonder why he would head back to Australia, his home country, which has an extradition treaty with Thailand. I though a non-extradition treaty country would be the obvious choice, so maybe he is simple.

His phone records will be interesting as well. I wonder if he called a friend around the same time, perhaps someone more experienced living in Thailand, for advice.

What if the teenager looks like a pre-pubescent child?

Why is he still standing here and why is he breathing? I am sorry, but I could not stand next to this animal knowing what he has done to the girl, any girl in fact!

The only satisfaction I can derive from this is to know that e will be dealt with inside the prison, and I eagerly look forward to that day!

If I am too late and he has already been dealt with then there is a GOD!🥵 I hope it was painful, VERY Painful!

Strange that no one in the condo could hear the loud commotion, that might come out in next few days

I don't think she looks 17 yo at all, either she started very young or fake ID which someone said on Facebook

The nonsense of it "being out of his hands". Perhaps hoping to go for the Diminished Responsibility route, if there is such a thing in Thailand.

Feed inmates blackchin tilapia, Thawee tells correctional...

This option will not just ensure food security in prisons, but will also address problem of invasive species, says justice minister

-------------

Yes, in 2026, versions of thin, fish-flavored soup are still served in standard Thai prison rations. The standard menu consists of highly diluted, watery broths heavily flavored with fish sauce or stinky fish paste, occasionally containing low-grade, bony fish pieces or scraps. However, the prison food landscape in Thailand has shifted due to government intervention and a thriving internal economy: Invasive Fish on the Menu: The Thai Department of Corrections modified menus to introduce invasive fish species. Inmates are fed blackchin tilapia and black-spotted climbing perch caught to help control ecological outbreaks, meaning the type of fish in the broth has shifted to these species.

Anyone else curious about the cause of death?

Without that tidbit of information, I'm open to the possibility that it was a drug overdose and the guy just panicked to get rid of the body. That doesn't exonerate the guy, but it would paint a different picture.

Or, it may have been an act of violence. Have there been any updates in Thai media?

The report says her body showed signs of violence.

It doesn't matter whether the victim was a woman or a lady boy. What is wrong with some posters here?

What we have, based on the information the police have released because they appear to believe they have a strong case, is the murder of a 17-year-old whose life had barely begun.

It is absolutely deplorable.

If he took her back and things weren't working out, what was wrong with simply paying her and letting her leave?

That is what the overwhelming majority of people involved in prostitution would do. What they don't do is murder a 17-year-old child, stuff her into a suitcase, dump her by railway tracks as though she were rubbish. Then allegedly try to board the next flight back to Australia as if nothing had happened.

What I find equally disturbing is the reaction from some people on this forum. Instead of showing the slightest compassion for a young girl who lost her life in such horrific circumstances, they're playing amateur detective, inventing theories and even making jokes.

Whatever the facts ultimately prove to be, a 17-year-old is dead. She deserves dignity and respect, not ridicule or entertainment.

This one hits particularly close to home for me. The girl came from the province where I have lived with my partner for nearly 25 years. Behind all the speculation was a real young person with a family whose lives have been devastated.

Exactly. Just 17 years old and her life taken with such brutality. It's sickening.
Then shoved into a case and tossed away like she was nothing. Poor kid.

Word is from my Thai wife. Definitely a lady. The Aussie picked her up on Jomtien beach road. Her friend after a while couldn't contact her, I dont know how long that was. She went to the police who were able to trace her movements with the Aussie back to his condo on cctv. Further investigation and tracking cctv eventually led to them finding the body by the train road and his subsequent arrest at the airport. A pretty good response for once by the police.

It may be incorrect but I saw a news report with events in a different order. That they arrested him at the airport and questioned him with evidence of the cctv showing his movements. Then he told them where the case was. So they knew what to expect when they retrieved the case.

I think that was already quite obvious from the OP.

Investigators said the suspect disappeared from CCTV coverage for more than nine minutes before returning to the condominium on the same motorcycle without the suitcase. Police believe the victim’s body was disposed of during that period.

Guys who kill Thai girls aren't, shall we say, well-liked.

12 hours ago, KhunHeineken said:

The autopsy, showing cause of death, and possibly other forensic material found in the room, will determine what he is charged with.

It's possible she died of a self induced drug overdose, or even a medical episode like a heart attack, he panicked, and disposed of the body. Tampering with a crime scene / disposing of a body is still a crime, but the CCTV footage alone is not evidence of murder.

Denying everything tends to show he has killed her, and whilst the CCTV footage is extremely strong circumstantial evidence, it do not prove murder alone.

Her body showed she had been subject to extreme violence.

11 hours ago, VBer said:

My theory is that this was an 'I am under 18' extortion attempt that turned violent. I have heard of cases where the woman becomes hysterical, destroys the room, and demands a large sum of money. Regardless, that gives him absolutely no excuse for killing her

Age of consent in Thailand is 15.

Not when its prostitution .

To keep this masterclass of a discussion rolling, particularly the part where we’re all deeply concerned if the victim was a ladyboy.... a quick question. When was the last time a Canadian murdered someone in Thailand? Or even committed the ultimate atrocity of dining and dashing?

If what he said was true, and that is possibly lies too, then why didn't he tell her to just give him a BJ if she was menstrating and give her 500 baht for it. Seems stupid to risk everything for such a low amount of money, would have been better to even just give her the money to get rid of the problem and move on chalking it up to experience. Doesn't pass the smell test to me.

True. For a measly £11.00 UK a young girl has been beaten and murdered and his life is essentially over.

I reminded of a similar murder in Pattaya 10 or so years ago, N. Irish guy stabbed a girl he'd barfined to death, then covered with blood, jumped a taxi to the Airport. The driver alerted police and they quickly nailed him. Big in the news for a week then, as always it went away. Family in N. Ireland had money. Nobody I know knows how it happened but he ended up being sent back to N. Ireland and walked a free man, as did the Norwegian who stormed into a neighboring hotel room in Phuket and killed a honeymooning Indian. AFAIK, He's still walking free. The Nana Plaza killer was supposedly identified but never convicted and a Brit who killed his wife on Soi Honey Inn in Pattaya at noontime in front of dozens of witnesses, deeded the bar he jointly owned with his dead wife to her sister, posted 4 million bail and skipped to the UK, never charged with anything there. Justice is a commodity.

We'll see I guess but the police recently do seem to have some leadership and improved discipline. He'll almost certainly be convicted for this and prison time in Thailand is no joke. The evidence is overwhelming. Whether later he gets some deal to serve it in his own country is for another day.

Knives out for Brits, for being in the news too often lately, and Aussies over the murder of a 17-year-old in Pattaya?

Why are some people immediately assuming the man was on a DTV or ED visa—has that become the go-to explanation this month?

Next we’ll hear it was guys going berserk after smoking weed, or Russians and Chinese acting up because of extended visa-free stays.

Where does it end?

Will authorities now demand criminal-record checks, health insurance, letters from mothers, job references and school transcripts from every Aussie and Brit entering Thailand?

Ridiculous.

Fair point. Truth is Thailand is attracting a lot of less savoury tourism and they clearly don't know what to do about it. Hence floundering around imposing restrictions across the board which won't achieve what they hope.
Like the awful rape and murder of the 13 year old on the Chang Mai night train some years back. A train guard who had been drinking. S
o they banned all alcohol on all trains for everyone. The problem wasn't the alcohol. It was failed vetting of employees who have unfettered access to sleeping vulnerable passengers.

Putting myself in this guy's shoes, and imaging a change of price / services available, once back in the room, and the girl grabs a knife from the kitchen due to a price / service dispute, and I punch her in the face and she falls down and hits her head and dies in my apartment, would I dispose of the body, no, would I run, no, would anyone believe my version of events, no, am I in a whole lot of trouble, yes.

"There but for the grace of God go I."

It wasn't like that. She had been severely beaten.

There are loads of guys here with anger issues. The least intelligent like to talk with their fists.

I'm no spring chicken now but as a female who worked and lived in Thailand for some years way back, I met some who fixated on me.
A couple of them were truly terrifying. Roiling with barely suppressed rage and misogynistic hate towards women. It genuinely frightened me, and seeing the danger these girls put themselves in was horrible.
Those girls have very little options for survival and some hopes of a life. She can earn with one client as much as lowly jobs pay for one day.
The dream is usually to get some beauty school training and open her own shop. Most of them don't ever get to realise that dream.

The interim step -- once they knew who to look for -- was going through any camera info as to where he went. Then they knew where to look for anything suspicious and they found the suitcase.

from what I can gather the CCTV footage led them to him at the airport.
However 9 minutes during the footage he was out of coverage but they knew it was on that road/street and he came back to his bike without the suitcase, so it was the dump location.
After his arrest on presentation of the CCTV he told them where the suitcase was exactly.

If by "a bit simple" you mean below average IQ you could be right but everyone knows right from wrong, at least in the extreme of killing someone. The beating wounds she had, the cold organised disposal of her body suggests personality disorder.

You could rule out some by asking for a criminal record check before issuing anyone with a long term visa.

Would be note worthy to see if this guy has any history of violence in Australia. If so, it would show inadequate the visa check system is if they are not checking for criminal records (which most countries do).

You see criminals all over Thailand, alot i have seen have massive criminals records back in the UK, but have secured themselves visas, and were never asked to show if they criminals.
