Is that a serious question or am I missing out on some subtle satire?? Shall we just say that Thai prisons 'are not very nice'.......

You've been in one, have you?

Yes, it was a serious question.

If it turns out this was an illegal under 30-day Airbnb rental there could be even more potential civil damages let alone possible criminal charges to others than the perp.

Is that important here?

Enjoy your new steady diet of fish head soup you idiot!

Why is there always one person who comes up with that false, hackneyed comment?

Not false. You may want to check your facts there friend...from of late and only 2 years ago :

Feed inmates blackchin tilapia, Thawee tells correctional facilities

It was false, the article you referenced made no mention of fish-head soup, it referred to using the fish in prison menus in the same way that any other food is used. "Fish-head soup" is an urban myth and is not served to inmates in any Thai prisons.

Tolerated then .

Maybe illegal but , doesn't face prosecution (like it would for under 18s)

From the Bangkok Post:

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/3277445/australian-held-after-teen-girls-body-found-in-suitcase

Reports said the suspect confessed that he had never known the victim before, claiming they had met and agreed to pay her 1,000 baht “for her time”.

Once inside the room, the victim reportedly told him she was menstruating, so he reduced the payment to 500 baht.

They argued, after which the suspect alleged that the girl picked up a knife to threaten him and demand more money. He claimed he then acted in self‑defence, grabbing her neck and causing her death. He insisted he had no intention to kill.

So essentially, he killed a girl - and ruined the rest of his own life - over 500 baht. What poor judgement.

...which refers to places of prostitution such as brothels, it does not apply to prostitutes on the street.

  1. Section 283 bis of the Penal Code: This section makes it illegal to "take away" or bring any person between the ages of 15 and 18 for an "indecent sexual purpose", even with that person's consent.

Taking a street sex worker back to a hotel or condo fits this definition exactly.

  2. Anti-Trafficking Laws: Under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, anyone under 18 is legally classified as a child. Paying a minor for sex anywhere (street or establishment) easily triggers severe child exploitation and human trafficking charges.

Why are you fighting tooth and nail to say it's legal? Is this something you partake in?

Yes if the family wants to file civil claim.

His story reeks of BS to me. He's quite a big solid guy and he has to murder a little 17yo Thai gal with a knife in self defense??? In my younger wilder days I once had a drunk Thai GF come at me with a large knife. I disarmed her in a couple of seconds. Grabbed her arm and smashed it down hard on the back of a chair, she screamed in pain and immediately dropped the knife, which I picked up and put away. There was no need to hit her or wrestle with her. Just disarm her fast. Anyway RIP the poor girl.

He started badly with his "i was asleep and didn't see her leave" nonsense. Not a word he utters will or should be believed by anybody. Knives, 1000 baht, 500 baht, menstruation.......who cares, get him put away and let him rot sooner rather than later.

Huh? The only thing I have said is that a 17-year-old is not underage, she was over the age of consent for sexual activity. You are referencing completely different offences .

Those who are "fighting tooth and nail", as you put it, to say that, in isolation 17 is underage for sex here, are just wrong.

You could rule out some by asking for a criminal record check before issuing anyone with a long term visa.

Would be note worthy to see if this guy has any history of violence in Australia. If so, it would show inadequate the visa check system is if they are not checking for criminal records (which most countries do).

You see criminals all over Thailand, alot i have seen have massive criminals records back in the UK, but have secured themselves visas, and were never asked to show if they criminals.

SoutheastAsians & Pacific Islanders

The only ones who will not like the idea of a criminal check for any long term visa are those that hold criminal records.

The first job of any country is to protect it's citizens. Why when you have an immigration policy would you not check to see the people you are letting in are criminals or have a past? Even in countries like India and China citizens have access to criminal record checks (usually for jobs in airports, security etc).

Most countries request a criminal record check, but why doesn't Thailand? They make you go through so many hoops, fill archaic forms, but then leave this simple little check out.

Aussie Charged Over Teen’s Death in Pattaya

image.jpeg

An Australian man has been charged with murder after the body of a 17-year-old Thai girl was found naked inside a suitcase near railway tracks in Pattaya. Simon Carman, 46, is accused of killing Tunchanok Donhomla before disposing of her body. He was arrested while attempting to board a flight at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Police said Carman met Tunchanok on Pattaya’s Beach Road in the early hours, before the pair were seen entering a Condo together. CCTV footage later showed a man matching Carman’s description struggling with a black suitcase as he left the hotel. Investigators said the suitcase matched the one in which Tunchanok’s body was discovered.

The investigation began after the teenager’s friends reported her missing, telling police she had last been seen with a foreign man. Officers later examined the hotel room and said they found signs of a struggle, including blood splattered across the floor. Carman has also been charged with taking a minor for the purpose of committing an indecent act.

During police questioning, Carman allegedly said he had agreed to pay Tunchanok 1,000 baht but an argument broke out after he offered her 500 baht instead. He claimed she attacked him with a knife and that he acted in self-defence, while denying he killed her. Asked directly whether he was responsible for her death, he replied: “No.”

In a recorded police interview, Carman addressed the victim’s family, saying: “I feel bad for what happened to your daughter - it was out of my control.” He also claimed bruises and scratches on his neck had been caused by spiders in his condominium.

Tunchanok’s family said they had been unable to contact her before learning of her death. Her stepmother, Oradee Bussarakum, said: “We were scared. We just hoped it wouldn’t turn out the way we feared.”

It has now emerged that Carman is British-born and now runs a fuel delivery service in Australia where he has a lengthy history with police. The suspect has previously been charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place, driving while disqualified and demanding property with threats, according to the Daily Mail.

Police commander Anek Sarathongyu said investigators believed the evidence against Carman was “extremely strong” despite his denial. Carman remains in custody while police continue gathering evidence and conducting further interviews. If convicted of murder in Thailand, he could face life imprisonment or the death penalty.

TIMELINE OF EVENTS

Pattaya City Police Station have shared how the events unfolded.

June 26

11.36am: A missing person report is lodged for Ms Tunchanok.

2.26pm: Carman leaves the condo.

Unspecified time: Police find Carman's passport while inspecting his hotel room and request an arrest warrant from the court.

NB Was he at BKK trying to exit Thailand and board a plane to Perth without his passport?

They probably noticed all the bruising and scratching spiders in the room whilst they were there. Hang him today.

I don't think she looks 17 yo at all, either she started very young or fake ID which someone said on Facebook

First you reckon she looks like a ladyboy, now you think she doesn't look her age.

Her age is irrelevant anyway. She's been murdered.

An earlier post about what they found after opening the suitcase was the girl's body covered in a thin brown cloth. With the pixelisation, there was no way to confirm if she was clothed, partially or otherwise. This is the first definitive comment I have seen that her body was naked. To me, this suggests whatever happened in the condo was possibly just before, during or after coitus. To me this casts doubt on the menstruation claim and the discounted fee argument. Possibly he undressed her after he had murdered her?

What "hoops and so many archaic forms" does Thailand force on people visiting for holiday? Has Thailand stopped permitting visa on entry for most countries?

Anywhere in the World as far as I know exchange for gifts or money is 18yo

Consensual sex in most parts of the world is 16yo

I believe some States in Australia are 17 , I believe some States in the USA are 17

But...paid sex is 18yo

Disgusting pedofile predator!! Yeah, we all believe you, "self defense"..100kg vs 40kg. You took a life of a 17 year old girl for 500thb!!
