July 1Jul 1 12 hours ago, Georgealbert said:A dispute between a Thai woman and a foreign man over a swastika tattoo at a fast food restaurant in Thailand has prompted widespread discussion on social media about the symbol’s meaning and cultural sensitivity.Get today's headlines by email The confrontation was shared on June 30 after the Facebook page Yaak Dang Diew Jad Hai Return Part 7 reposted a video originally recorded by the Thai woman involved. The page invited users to share their opinions on the exchange.According to the video, the foreign man, who was wearing a red shirt and accompanied by his Thai partner, approached the restaurant counter before turning to confront the woman filming him. The recording suggests the pair had already been arguing before the video began. The man told a member of staff that the woman had a tattoo which he believed represented support for fascism and violence. The employee appeared uncertain how to respond and instead encouraged him to continue placing his order.Picture courtesy of The ThaigerDuring the exchange, the Thai woman explained that she did not understand the meaning of the symbol when she had the tattoo done. She also said she was legally entitled to have the tattoo in Thailand because there is no law banning the display of the symbol. The woman showed the tattoo, located on the inside of her ankle, while continuing to record the encounter. The foreign man then began filming both the woman and the tattoo before the argument ended after his Thai girlfriend intervened. The video attracted mixed reactions online. Some social media users said the swastika remains a highly sensitive symbol because of its historical links to violence and should be treated with caution.Others argued that the symbol shown in the tattoo differed from the version adopted by the Nazi Party, pointing to differences in its orientation. Some commenters also supported the woman’s position, saying she had the legal right to display the tattoo because it does not violate Thai law.The disagreement follows a similar case reported in March last year involving a dispute between a clothing shop owner and foreign customers over shirts displaying images of Vladimir Putin and Adolf Hitler. In that case, the shop owner later said on social media that the clothing formed part of a historical-themed collection and did not represent support for violence, adding that she believed she had the right to sell legal products. The Thaiger reported that while the latest argument ended without further reported action, the online debate continues, highlighting differing views on freedom of expression, historical symbolism and cultural interpretation. AQPQIx4k4BIKBmO8pCH_A32CepV3P9zzyLDUSbjx811Qjpi4f8GHZkieiAlr43u83McCeW6nRWvjjfwyZ5d9Iaom9pxiEDzfiUhsV1iyvw.mp4 5.51 MB · 9 downloadsJoin the discussion? I don't want to walk into some place in Thailand and constantly need to be on the look out, as in the US, for some walking time bomb who has had a lifetime education that teaches him/her they have the right to attack people because of perceived slights.Exactly so.And this is a culture in the US that I abhor. This does NOT happen in Thailand. But, it DOES happen in the USA.Why does it happen in the USA?Just please read the history of the United States, beginning with the history of slavery, the oppression of various peoples, and much more.I am not saying that, perhaps, oppressed minorities do not have a right to feel slighted, and maybe for many reasons.I am only saying that this is not my fault. Also, I do not want to deal with the repercussions of slavery and racial prejudices, at such an intense level as you find in the USA.Therefore, I have chosen to LEAVE THE ROOM.I will never return. But, I do not welcome these people to come half-way around the world to bring their hate and acting-out with them.If they come here, in number, then I will leave and go somewhere else. This is perfectly fine with me.I am through with reading the books by those such as Malcolm X, and many others.I have read them. Now, I am oldI want to enjoy life.

Looks the same to me. Others weigh in, please. Will the honest swastika please stand up. Same as Hitler's.Same as Hitler's.This one seems to spin in the reverse.

Indeed, just reading a single line further would have helped you.I am German, living currently in Germany, and on a quick guess I know the local law and its interpretation better than you.As it goes:"The left-pointing swastika is a sacred symbol of luck and peace in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism . The Nazi swastika was based on it, turned 45 degrees, and pointed to the right. Here is how German law views the symbol: Under Section 86a of the Criminal Code, displaying symbols of unconstitutional organizations is illegal. The Exceptions: The law has clear exceptions for art, science, research, and religious use.The Context Test: German courts look at the entire context to decide if a display is a crime . A swastika tattoo accompanied by other Hindu religious tattoos or worn by a follower of the religion is highly unlikely to be punished. The same tattoo on a person showing neo-Nazi behavior is illegal."
