July 1Jul 1 What an absolute F-wit that guy is. The symbol he is so concerned about has been around for a thousand years in India, Japan and Asia before the Nazis commandeered it. Good on the woman for standing up for herself. Have a look at any Japanese map and you will see all their temples marked with that symbol.
July 1Jul 1 Hard to be sure from the video but this looks like a Buddhist symbol to me. Some people should do a bit more research. Or, here’s a thought - just mind your own damned business. https://skdesu.com/en/its-nazi-buddhist-meanings/
July 1Jul 1 13 hours ago, Gecko123 said::10 second mark on videoThat is the mirror image of a swastika. In East Asia—including China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam—the counterclockwise version is actually the dominant form used in Buddhism. The Footprints of the Buddha: In Buddhist art, the symbol is called manji in Japanese or wàn in Chinese. It is traditionally seen stamped on the chest, hands, or soles of feet of Buddha statues. It represents the Buddha’s footprints, the resignation of the spirit, and the concepts of infinity, abundance, and eternal life.Map Markers: If you open a map of Tokyo or Seoul today, you will see the counterclockwise symbol used everywhere as the official geographic map icon to indicate the location of a Buddhist temple.Reclaiming the Image: Because the Nazi party exclusively used a right-facing, 45-degree tilted version, East Asian Buddhist communities heavily prefer the flat, left-facing version to clearly distinguish their ancient religious symbol from modern Western political hate.

July 1Jul 1 Interestingly, the hooks on the symbol on the famous Elephant Gate at Carlsberg Breweries in Copenhagen turn right like a Nazi Swastika. However, the symbol isn't angled at 45 degrees like a Nazi swastika and the statue was built in 1901, well before the rise of Nazism, so it isn't connected to Nazism. From the screen grab of the girl's ankle, her tattoo is left facing, so technically not a Nazi swastika. It's confusing, but as I understand it, to tell the religious and Nazi symbols apart:Right-Facing Swastika 卐This is the true swastika.Symbolizes the sun, luck, and good energy.Commonly used by Hindus and Jains to welcome wealth.Left-Facing Swastika 卍Turns to the left (counterclockwise).Called a sauwastika.Symbolizes the night, magic, and the goddess Kali. Also used in Buddhism to show the footprints of Buddha.Nazi Swastika:Right facing and tilted at 45 degrees. How to tell the religious symbols apart from the Nazi symbol:In the West, both religious versions of the symbol are often conflated with the Hakenkreuz (hooked cross), which was adopted by the Nazi Party in the early 20th century. However, as stated, the Nazis used a right-facing, 45 degree tilted version of the symbol.

July 1Jul 1 Concerning the choice of the symbol in question, on the Nazi Flag...Why not just get the truth straight from the HORSE's Mouth, meaning passages in Mein Kampf:"The question of the new flag, i.e. of its appearance, occupied our minds a great deal at that time. Proposals came from all sides, though they were mostly more well-intended than acceptable. For the new flag had both to be a symbol of our own battle and to have a striking poster-like effect. Anyone who has had to concern himself much with the masses will realize that these apparent trifles are actually very important matters. An effective badge may give the first impulse toward an interest in a movement in hundreds of thousands of cases. For this reason we had to decline the suggestion of a white flag, made in many quarters, which would have identified our movement with the old State, or rather with those feeble parties whose sole political aim is the restoration of vanished conditions. Besides, white is not a compelling color. It is suitable for chaste societies of maidens, but not for insurgent movements in a revolutionary age.Black was also proposed. In itself it was fitting for the present day, but there was almost no way of deducing from it any suggestion of our movement’s intent. And finally this color is not compelling enough either.Blue and white was out of the question, despite its wonderful aesthetic effect, as the color of one German State [Bavaria] and of a political attitude of narrow particularism whose reputation unfortunately was not of the best. Here too, furthermore, it would have been hard to find any indication of our movement. The same was true of black and white.Black, red and gold was out of the question in itself. So was black-white-red, for reasons which have been mentioned—at least in the accustomed form. In effectiveness, however, this color combination stands far above all others. It is the most radiant harmony there is.I myself always retaining the old colors, not only because they are the most sacred thing to me as a soldier, but because their artistic effect appeals far more than any other to my aesthetic sense. Nevertheless I had to decline without exception all the countless sketches that came in from the members of the young movement, most of them incorporating the swastika into the old flag. I myself, as Leader, did not want to appear immediately before the public with my own design, since it was quite possible that someone else might produce one equally good, perhaps even better. And in fact a dentist from Starnberg brought in a design that was not at all bad; it was a good deal like mine, but had the one fault that the swastika was fitted into a white circle by means of curved ends.Meanwhile I myself, after endless attempts, had laid down a final form: a flag with a red ground, bearing a white disk with a black swastika in its center. After many experiments I also established a definite relation between the size of the flag and the size of the white disk, as well as the shape and weight of the swastika."https://dn790000.ca.archive.org/0/items/mein-kampf-by-adolf-hitler-ralph-manheim-translation/Mein%20Kampf%20by%20Adolf%20Hitler%20-%20Ralph%20Manheim%20Translation.pdf?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=emailThis is the Manheim translation, and link to it.We read Mein Kamph in HS, of course, but I forgot all but that Hitler was descended from a long line of paperhangers, some having only one arm.

Not only because our respect for the past is attested by each color, passionately loved by us all, which called forth so much honor from the German people, but it was also the best embodiment of the desires of the people of the movement. As National-Socialists we see our program in our flag. In the red we see the social ideas of the movement; in the white, the nationalistic; in the swastika the mission of the fight for the victory of the Aryan man, and with it, simultaneously the victory of creating work, which in itself was anti-semitic, and will be anti-semitic eternally. Two years later, when out of regulator troops a great many thousand men had become an elaborate Storm Detachment, it seemed necessary to give this defense organization of the young world-concept a special symbol of victory: the Standard. I sketched it myself, and gave it to the master goldsmith, Gahr, to execute."But, what did his mustache symbolize, is what I would like to know.

How many can differentiate between Mae Thorani, Nang Kwak, Mae Phosop, central elements of folk belief in Thailand? How many know what iconography is related to the Thai-Brahmanic forms of Phra Prom, Phra Ram or Phra In?Makes you wonder, just because we come from a Western society, many of us think we are quite automatically educated, when in truth the knowledge blind spots many of us have, are gaping holes -- even after living right here in Thailand for years or decades -- make so many Westerners give the impression of being close to naive (and all-too-often even analphabetic) ignorants.
