A 15-year-old boy is facing repair costs of more than 1.3 million baht after a BMW he bought using his own income was badly damaged in a crash in Bangkok. His family said the woman driving the vehicle has not contacted them or offered assistance with the repair costs.

The teenage student, identified as a part-time computer programming teacher, used his earnings to pay instalments on a BMW iX3 Sport valued at 3.7 million baht. As he was too young to sign the purchase agreement, the vehicle was registered in his father’s name.

In August 2025, the family gave the BMW to a car rental company in Bangkok to generate additional income. The following month, the teenager’s father collected the car and showed it to a woman who was reportedly an associate professor and had expressed interest in BMW vehicles.

The woman later asked to use the car, and the family said a verbal agreement was made that she would help pay the vehicle instalments while she was using it. However, the family said the BMW was not returned as agreed.

In December 2025, the woman allegedly asked the teenager for 100,000 baht in exchange for returning the vehicle. The teenager and his mother attempted to recover the car, but it was involved in a crash before they could get it back.

On January 29, the teenager’s father learned that the BMW had been badly damaged in a crash while the woman was driving. The woman initially told the family that the damage was minor, but the teenager used the vehicle’s GPS application and found that it had been towed to a police station with extensive damage.

A repair garage first estimated the cost at 1.1 million baht. The teenager’s mother later said the amount had increased to more than 1.3 million baht and that the family would have to cover the repairs because the car insurance had expired.

Amarin reported that the mother said she and her son had been without the BMW for almost seven months. She added that the vehicle was normally used to transport students attending the teenager’s coding classes. The family released dashcam footage of the crash and images of the damaged vehicle.

15 yr old computer programming teacher sure does earn some decent coin to be buying a 3.6million baht car (even if it was/is on finance)!

A lot of lessons to be learned here, for both the 15 year old and the parents!

A 15-year-old earns enough for a BMW while the rest of us are comparing instant noodle prices.

Imagine being grounded… and still having to make the BMW repayments. 😂

A sharp contrast in behaviour here.

First, we have a 15‑year‑old who acquires a 3.7‑million‑baht BMW through discipline and entrepreneurial skill.

Then, there is the academic who gets to use the car on a vague verbal arrangement, fails to return it, demands 100,000 baht, and then allegedly leaves it heavily damaged with expired insurance.

The said agreement produces two entirely different standards: one based on nievity and good faith; and the other seemingly on opportunism and deceit.

The outcome is that the boy is left with a repair bill of more than ฿1.3 million.

I'm sure the taxation department will be sniffing around this one. Maybe a Gofundme will take care of the repairs.

A 15 year old teacher and a BMW of 3,7 million?? It must not be crazier in this country.. He can't even have a car driving license nor he is able to buy the car without his father signature...Stupidity is becoming normal nowadays I believe... The kid should be in school and end his education before we can call him a teacher. His parents should educate him not to drive without a driverslicense, and instead of buying a BMW he better have bought an old car when he was old enough to learn to drive with it... What a silly question! Of course car insurance is available in Thailand. Why would anyone think that it isn’t.

At first I thought “a 15 year old teacher” was the crazy part of this story.

Then I read that the 15 year old (with a co-signer) leased a 3.7M baht BMW and I thought that was the crazy part of the story.

She should be brought up on extortion or theft charges.

Why didn't the 15 year old's family go to the police after such a demand?

The woman effectively stole the car by demanding money for its return. Why didn't the family contact the police? Presumably she and it were easy to find with the GPS that was - too late - used to find the vehicle. Two - the family were presumably responsible for renewing the insurance, but didn't. Their loss. A lot of things don't add up in this story.

Far too many things not adding up, especially on the insurance side of things.

A car must be insured if it has finance on it, or red flags fly up quickly with the finance company.

He gets a car like this on payments with Dad's blessing (blatant showing off by the family), a 15-year-old boy with 3.7 million baht car, probably most on finance.

Then it's out on hire to get additional income for payments, meaning they obviously couldn't afford the payments in the first place after the initial deposit, and searched for other forms of income to pay the monthly instalments. Firstly, the BMW hire place, then a private agreement with an individual.

Then this nonsense about 100,000 baht to return the car that she, if the said story is true, is stolen?

Furthermore, who lends out 3.7 million bahts worth of BMW on a verbal agreement?

Why not a full rental agreement drawn up for the car with this associate professor, then if not returned, it's theft, pure and simple?

Anyway, the price of stupidity in this case is 1.3 million baht.

so a 15 y/o biught/leased a bmw with parents help, he is too young to drive so why was he getting a car or is it the normal way rich thais ignore the law and let their 15 y/o son drive. Also have to wonder why a company would even allow him to buy/lease it to a 15 y/o with no licence, seems here in Thailand money talks a lot louder than the law when we see BS like this but at least he hasnt hit & killed anyone yet else like that under age female a few years ago, again with rich parents that allowed her to drive.

All high school students should be required to take a course on personal money management, contracts and agreements, and budgeting, with an emphasis on living within your means. I would suggest this story be used in class as a good teaching example of exactly what not to do.

Lesson seems to be learned: Don't buy an expensive car if you cannot afford it.

And here I am agonizing over whether I should buy a 400k car or a 800k car and do I really need one... and you have 15 year olds with a side hustle plonking 3.7mil on a BMW. How did he get financing? pay deposit? so many things don't add up. Gotta wonder if there isn't a lot more to the story and the kid angle is just an attempt to gain sympathy.

Father is responsible Ultimately to the Finance Company.

Family?? Gives the vehicle to Rental Company.

Father collects car, Without written agreement, collateral?the BMW was given to a stranger?

December asked for return, probably back and forth. Family waits approximately a month to track vehicles location.

Maybe first month the original purchaser used the car to transport coding students. It was given to a Rental Company approximately a month after purchase.

This form of illogical behavior, shenanigans, and poor decisions have now Crashed down on you literally and financially. Letting insurance that may, may partially or Not provide coverage if she is not a Named Driver on the policy.

This is why I'm teaching the wife's family and children the good business practices.

From what is in the comments do I understand that he had no insurance for the vehicle? If so driving without insurance is also a crime.
