So many things are different as you no longer have that wide range of kids and people you used to run into back home at work, school, in the neighborhood, mutual acquaintances, etc. Energy level a bit low. Few things are new and as exciting as they once were. Hopefully health is goo so you are not in discomfort. Monies may be a bit tight and there is some worry in the back of your mind that your current savings/investments or income are not enough yet you are concerned you can not get back into the work force. Or you do not want to get back into the work force!Everyone over 60 should do resistance training or physical work. Otherwise your muscles waste away.

It's more like they are drained of something.Reminds me of the feeling after sex when you are totally relieved and just staring into space. A state of being drained of energy and having no edge there, or just being really tired. They are probably getting drained of pretty much everything and anything by Thai partners and just the environment in general trying to get every penny they can. In Central Pattaya the money grubbing is pretty prevalent, can even walk far without people wanting something. Multiply that daily every day and it gets tiresome.

My dad was a petroleum engineer, who learned to read, write and speak fluent Arabic while living and working in Saudi Arabia. I was born and spent the first 12 years of my life there. We got a three month vacation once every two years known as home leave. We would go back through Europe and the go home through Asia from San Francisco. It was the life I knew and was completely normal as we lived in ARAMCO camps, but I went out with my dad to meet Arabs for company business. Got tired of America after 24 years there and moved over here. Married after a couple of years had twins who now live in America but I remain here as it seems "normal" to me. May not be normal to others but its the way it came down.

August 6Aug 6 Before investing in any location best to visit for an extensive period of time to assess whether it suits, or not.

August 6Aug 6 Many people come to the touristy nightlife places on holiday and have a compete hoot, which is to be expected, but then when they decide to retire/come and live here full-time it wears off a bit and you see all its short-comings too... plus most overspend in the first year or so. The trick to this is to live a little bit outside of the maelstrom of chaos, bars, and girls and just visit there when you are in the mood... so you can take it or leave. Living too close and constantly being in the midst of it all will eventually send most (not all though) nuts and make you broken, mentally and financially... many make this mistake. There are so many guys I've met and known who have unwittingly become cautionary tales for any number of reasons and had to leave, it's crazy.I have always viewed these places like Pattaya, Samui, Bangkok (not too bad but you still need to be careful), Phuket etc. as places to visit and have a good holiday... not as a long-term venue to live, as there are potentially just some many things that can go wrong if you want to achieve longevity here and not lose your mind.

I liked Vegas. It costs more though and the resort fees are getting expensive.I visited some of these resort type places in Pattaya like Seven Seas, Laguna Beach, etc that are the same kind of resort thing that Vegas does, but in Pattaya I felt they were crap, cheap quality and I did not even want to go in the pool.Same idea in both locations, but less money floating around in Pattaya. It seemed to equate to people being less happy. My faulty expectation was getting the same quality for less money. The saying you get what you pay for is true. Edited August 6Aug 6 by Freebird13
