and yes, there is a whole different set of questions that comes up. How long are you staying in Thailand? Do you speak Thai? Where are you from? Have you been here before

Sure, common questions, though not common if a chick is hitting on you which unwittingly happens a lot to westerners by common women all the time. It’s unbelievable how stupid some guys are, incapable of identifying that they’re being hit on by a chick. A lot of Thai chicks don’t have social hangup like most of the farang that come here, due to the lack of response, they think the guy doesn’t like her.

Tell him again he's wrong as usual, meaning every single time. Tell him also that he's up against a person who studies psychology, that his mannerisms are expected long before he speaks, and that every one of his go to lines I knew decades before i ever joined this forum.

Tell him he knows nothing about me besides what I've said here, and that he constantly turns the truth I've said around for whatever weird reason his personality type conjures up. In my experience it's usually jealousy because he cannot fathom that men can treat women well and have them turn on you, likely because he hasn't had many relationships with normal women but naive locals and P4P.

That I know I chose poorly a couple of times but harping on those couple doesn't come near all the great relationships I had with women without children involved.

Tell him to read everything I say again, then take time to see the error of his ways, not only with me but everyone else on this forum he insults and deflects conversations with, which is reason one I won't interact directly with a supposed grown man acting like a spoiled teenage boy.

Your posts are...far out man 😊

Is this the adult behaviour to which you refer so often?

No P4P for me @fredwiggy . You know that, but you are so desperately scrambling, that the truth matters less than just saying something, anything.

Also. no locals. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's you who is paying to play...with a local.

Your description fits you rather than me. That's the plain truth.

Not sure if it's the same for gay relationships, as I've never had one.

Back on topic,

I never had any expectations when I arrived in Thailand.

But if I had any, they would have been exceeded beyond my wildest dreams. Unlimited access to sex with slim attractive women, reasonably priced accomodation, warm weather, wide choice of food ..... what's not to like?

True, you bring nothing they want- money, looks, dazzling personality, and they are gone. Nothing fake about that and just reality. My relationship is not remotely fake.

Fake is acting as if money doesn't matter when to that person it obviously does.

The fact remains. Most decent Thai women will not start a conversation with a foreigner. Those that do have been around or with foreigners, hence the better chance they will start asking questions. They are hitting on you when they do this, while the ones who are shy and look away are the ones taught that way, to practice modesty and social norms. This does not mean those that do are bad women but just more experienced and willing to get involved quicker. Taking away meeting on apps, where shyness goes away.

No, you understand like a kid, with no restraint and lines like I heard from teens all my life, raising 5 of them myself. That I have more experience with normal women than you is obvious, and hardly theories.

That you and he agree on things when it comes to arguing against others yet insult each other when no one else is around is evident, and laughable. That you both haven't the slightest clue about anyone's life here yet think you do is beyond laughable into very disturbed thinking.

And everything you and he say are likely lies, which is more reason you try and insult others who are actually with normal women.

White women rarely hit on guys. So it is unusual to the farangs. Most good Thai women are fairly shy at first.

Pronounced like “Bpai nai?” is something you hear all the time in Thai villages when walking past the neighbours. It literally means, “Where are you going?” but is usually just a casual greeting between people who know or recognise each other.

I have to admit that I’ve also heard it once or twice in English while passing through a few bar districts, which is almost impossible to avoid if you have spent years visiting or living in Thailand and socialising. But in normal everyday life, it would be unusual for a complete stranger to ask where you are going without some reason to start a conversation.

I agree with the obvious part. Foreigners often mistake normal friendliness for flirting, especially from ordinary women who have no such intention whatsoever. Knowing the difference takes social skills and some cultural knowledge.

Generally, if a woman is attracted to you, she is more likely to look down (or away) and then look back up at you, often accompanied by a slight smile.

This sequence—frequently studied in non-verbal communication and courtship behavior—is known as a "coy gaze."

You couldn’t be further from the truth. Am a very outgoing person and folks including “decent women” as you put it, who are also socially open inherently pick up on sight and often initiate conversations. Normal socially functioning folks can spot uptight people and don’t engage.

Good grief…you sure don’t get out much.

If someone knows the language then they’ll certainly be more open to initiating, though if someone doesn’t know the language and spots an uptight pent up grump staring at them, then sure they’ll shy away including myself, who wants to weird out with a creep? This is why they’re scared of you, it’s the energy you put out, we all can see it when you’re walking down the street. Basically, human behavior is the same everywhere in world, your social norms of being taught to look away statement doesn’t apply in this context, it’s silly and naive quite frankly.

I do a lot of walking and am familiar and know a lot of folks I pass by nearly everyday, rarely am asked where I’m going. Always exchanges of krap, khrap phom and/or sawatee and a possible convo. But then again, I’m just walking.

What a lot of you farangs miss are the subtleties that exist in nearly every interaction and only pick up on the overt stuff. In your case, you just parrot what others have said, don’t see any consistent credibility.

What would you know? You married a Thai that failed quick. Now you pay a woman monthly to be with you. I have never paid an allowance. I knew more about Thais 20 years ago then you do now. Your knowledge of Thai women comes from stories you hear from farangs you see once a week. Old guys who also pay an allowance.

Yeah...like we all have 50,000 CD/DVDs at home, watch hundreds or even thousands of movies annually and move from our home countries, make a baby and then go to live in the middle of arse and complain about it.

All completely normal. Whilst those in normal long term relationships, who don't have to pay for their companionship, are the ones who are abnormal? Really? Wake up @fredwiggy! You are the neurodivergent.

Please don't start with the assuming like those other two. How would you know if those that start a conversation with you are decent women? Yes, they could be, but the norm here for women who are, is shy and reserved. This is AI, but has been repeated by Thais and others through the years..........................Yes, most respectable, mainstream Thai women in Thailand generally do not approach or start random conversations with foreign men due to cultural modesty, language shyness, and social norms.

Cultural and Social Norms

  • Shyness and Modesty: Traditional Thai upbringing places a high value on ความ 38 (khwam riap roi)—being gentle, reserved, and modest. Approaching a stranger of the opposite sex, especially a foreigner, is often viewed as forward or improper.

  • Fear of Judgment: Women outside of the nightlife or entertainment sectors worry about how being seen chatting with a foreign stranger might look to their families, peers, or community, as public decorum is heavily emphasized.

  • Language Barriers: While many urban or educated Thais study English, a lack of conversational confidence often stops ordinary women from initiating dialogue unless there is a practical reason (like a job or direct assistance needed).

Where Context Changes Behavior

  • Professional and Social Settings: Educated or career-oriented women may chat or break the ice if introduced through mutual friends, work environments, or structured hobby groups, but they still rarely cold-approach.

  • The Exception vs. The Rule: Women who actively approach foreigners unprompted are statistically more likely to be found in tourist hotspots, nightlife zones, or commercial venues where cross-cultural interaction or transactional dating is normalized. .

  • Unless you get to know them well, you have no idea of the people you meet anywhere

Yes, I do get out much. I have a normal girlfriend here I don't pay for, besides what the moron assumes about, with us not seeing any evidence of him having one besides him saying his women all pay for him and he never pays.

I also have interacted with hundreds here, with my ex and girlfriend. Weekly weddings or funerals, lunches and dinners, at co-workers homes and hers. Working on farms with both families and traveling. I also studied up on Thai customs years before I ever came here, along with talking to many Thais who owned restaurants in two states. What I read and heard proved true once I moved here and lived amongst them for almost 9 years. Longer than you have and I've never paid for any women besides a couple of hookers at 17 back in NYC.

Why assume anyone's scared of me without knowing me? Why assume you can all see it when I'm walking down the street? If that's your experience with some foreigners here, don't put it on me. I talk to locals all the time here, both in my village and outside. Not a good idea to put yourself into those two's company with those assumptions. That's another thing that makes the location feel not right me. Most Thai's, men and women, don't want to be outside much. Most kind of stay indoors or hang out in front of places a lot only where there is a shade umbrella or overhang. Where I am from there is a big culture of having fun in the sun, enjoying being outdoors, people don't want to hang around inside all day. Same for walking around, people don't like it here. They want to be driven or take taxi's. I can still do those things my way, but when nobody else is enjoying doing them it feels off somehow.

I think it's fairly safe to say that most of the time expectations never quite meet reality regardless of the situation. To have an expectation that there would be many single women lounging around a swimming pool in skimpy bikinis was unrealistic expectation number one. If they're hanging out in the condo building it's not because they're renting a condo, it's because they're being rented by a resident!
