I have a childhood friend who I still consider a friend but we don't speak much any more as he is a HUGE Trumper. Loves Trump. What's really hypocritical is that he used some Obama era government sub

I ended several friendships because of trump. Not politics. Morals. I will not call friends people who condone lying, cheating, or stealing. Trump's done all three often. I will not call friends peopl

This may possibly lead to more problems than expected the person might become more unhinged and start a stalking campaign and may even lead to violent altercations. The OP should just leave the provenance and change his name to be safe.

Never let anyone know where you live ......... there's a lot of nutters out there.

I learned this little bit of knowledge from Thais, they rarely invite friends to their homes.

And short time rooms are everywhere, so same rules for gfs.

How do you manage ending a friendship that has run its course? What do you do when you realise that someone you once called a friend has become toxic and being around them sucks your energy and makes you feel bad wheai n you are around them?

Do you just slowly withdraw from them, and choose not to respond to their messages or calls? Or do you explain to them why you are retreating from them, saying that you feel the friendship has run its course...

I just withdraw — can be slowly or instant cut — just stop reacting or answering, stop following if on SoMe, but not unpolite unfriend. Mentally I just "cut" and move on.

Never said my friend was the problem.Funny you think Trump has to be worse than Hitler et al, notorious depots, before old school friend and I grab a coffee. But yea, Trump is a massive numpty, luckily too stupid to be pol pot although he'd like that.

You completely missed the point. Keep doing you then.

What I usually do is wait until I’ve had 10 pints then insult them, their wives and everybody close to them.

Then in the morning when I drag my head from under the pillow,I realise that it is really me that is the pillock.

Alternatively ,just tell them what you think.

The truth will always set you free.

You have co-dependencies issues so you will have to fix that first.

Being kind and honest is not co-dependent! An awful lot of people here favour ghosting your friend. I think that's terribly cruel. He won't ever know why.

A few years ago, I had a friend in my mooban, a fellow Canuck. I used to go walking with him. All he ever had to talk about was how his ex- left him (21 years ago, because he shacked up with a 16-year old, still married) and turned their son against him. Demandin $120k in child support through the courts. I finally told him I couldn't take the negativity anymore. After four years, we're friends again, have a coffee once a week.

Honestly, the people I've given up on intentionally I can count on the fingers of one hand. Most of my relationships are via email these days. Both sides are too frugal & too tired to travel halfway across the world. To say what we couldn't say in email? Not a phone guy. Don't need to see people's faces or hear their voice. I know them.

I am currently faced with this dilemma and don’t know the best way to handle it.

A few people I once called friends have changed in ways that make it hard for me to remain friends with them. A couple have become bitter and toxic and are now so unpleasant to be around that in the case of one guy, his Thai wife has told me that she has had enough of him and is about to leave him. A couple of other friends have changed and we have almost nothing in common anymore. They each wish to continue to meet up while I no longer have any interest in doing so.

If it were a relationship of a romantic nature, I’d sit down and explain where things were at. But with friendships, I’m not sure the best way to go about it. My tendency in life is to be open and honest – but my experience has been that some people don’t like to hear the truth.

Said friends are in their 60s of early 70s, retired and long-term Thailand expats.

If you have faced a similar dilemma, how did you handle it? Or am I overthinking this all and I should just block them on all forms of communication and be done with it?

I would try to find a different bar girl to hang around. You could go to the extreme to find a African gay friend to hang out with.

Elastoplast....only way.

Think EXACTLY what you would do if a friend had shown such little respect for you that they seem to have treated your friendship as a permanent fixture in their life, that required no effort on their part , with no recipocracy of friendship.

Then....Dd that.

I don't bother explaining myself to people if I do not consider them friends anymore. That would only create conflict.

I just stop contacting them, blocking their emails and texts.

Unless watered with conversation, friendships will die quite quickly.
