Have a look at Xiaomi's new Skynomad. 10,000 orders in the first four minutes. And the N90 Extended has a double decker, integrated camp beds, heated and cooled underfloor, a projector, and aircon upstairs.

We've never seen innovation like this is the automotive space. Legacy auto makers are cooked.

Premise: A folding phone is better than a phone that doesn't fold.

Data:

*More fragile

*Thicker and heavier

*Higher cost

*Compromises in durability

*Folding isn't always useful

Most everyday tasks don't require a larger screen, so the extra complexity can provide little benefit while adding trade-offs. 😁

You definitely need really long fingers to use it though. Clearly the fingers on the model's right hand are much longer.

I agree & don't think Applie needed mentioning at all (outside of maybe a side-by-side comparison) let alone in the thread TItle.

I'm unashamably Apple as I tend to keep my phones for 5-6 years & I've found Apple gives me that kind of longevity.

i often see people persevering with an old iphone

They thought tablets were going to replace laptops. Then they added physical keyboards to tablets. A tablet does not replace a laptop.

If a phone starts to open up into a tablet, it doesn't even feel like a phone anymore.

I prefer going back to a flip phone AND getting a separate tablet.

Just get separate devices for different needs. No need for one device that claims to do it all.

Completely agree. I used to buy Androids and every single one of them was dead within a year. My very first iPhone was the 6, which I got about 10 years ago, and to this day it still works perfectly. I’m actually still using it daily as a bedside clock radio and to track down my current iPhone whenever I misplace it using Apple's "Find My" app. I still haven't gotten around to throwing away the many dead Android phones I’ve owned—they just sit in a box, and every time I look at them, I just shake my head and wonder why I ever bought that cr@p!

Apple is cr*p the same way that Starbucks and McDonald's are cr*p.

I'll be buying my wife the folding iPhone this Christmas, my boy will get her 17 and I'll get his 15.

Apple has been good to me.

I wouldn't call it persevering, my last IPhone was a 14 only upgraded because I dropped it & a Green line appeared down the middle of the screen, before that I had an IPhoneX and that got replaced because the battery was going & I couldn't be bothered get it replaced, both are still in a drawer & do everything I need from a Phone.

When I worked in Tech I used to upgrade to the latest & greatest flagship phone every year, now I just upgrade when I need to & only to a model that does what I need (IPhone 14 & 17 are both the standard model).

I do admit that the one thing missing from the IPhone 14 which you could call "Perserving" is the Apple Intelligence needed to power offline Translation on the Airpod Pros, I really wanted this but wasn't about to spend 30,000 THB on a Phone just so I could spend another 8,500 on the AIrpods, now I've been more or less forced to upgrade it doesn't feel as bad picking up a pair of Airpod Pro 3s so as I'm visiting the UK, I ordered a pair from Amazon for £179/8,000 THB, arriving tomorrow.

PS. I have the Apple Watch & Airpods series 1 + an IPad that I bought in 2010 that are all still going strong, only switched from Macbooks last year when my 2013 Macbook Pro 3 finally gave up the ghost.

I have an iPhone X that I use only for listening to podcasts and music and whatnot in my shop, an iPhone XS Pro I use for my US sim, and my main phone is a 13 Pro Max that was my wife's originally, and my son's after that before I got it.

My first "smart" phone was an HP iPAQ, which I hated and replaced with an iPhone 4S that (as far as I know) is still working.

I got all my phones "free" from work up until 2020, and the company liked Apple.

OK, my fault for the headline, but it was supposed to be a thread bout the Xiaomi expanding new car - hence it being in the motoring forum. It's a proper innovation and is selling like crazy (in China).

Anyway, seeing as it's become a phone thread, I love Apple computers. I have a Macbook Pro and have used them for as long as I remember. I also have a Mac Studio M4 Max which is a beast and I love it. I could never ever use Windows again.

I got an iPhone when they first came out but after the iPhone 4 I switched to Samsung Galaxy and it was just so much better: better camera, better specs, better and more intuitive to use, better innovation. And I stayed with Samsung for years. When it was time to replace one I was persuaded to go back to Apple and I bought an iPhone 14 Pro Max which I still have. I hate it. So many annoying things it just doesn't do as well as Android. Siri is pathetic. I still have the phone as to me a phone is a phone, but when it breaks or becomes too slow I will definitely go back to Android unless Apple somehow up their game.

I hate the fact that Air Pods are a ridiculous price. I hate their laptop chargers as this always happens (I am off to buy a new one today). I hate the fact that once you are "in" they just bleed you. I hate the fact that you take anything in to be repaired and they quote you basically the price of a new machine.

I won't be joining the queue for a Duo. I would buy a Xiaomi Skynomad though.

Not sure what you bought. I owned several Android phones (all Samsung) over the years and never had any problem. Several friends bought iphones and complain about high repair costs.

I'm with you on that. I miss my old Samsung S2, my first smartphone. Back then they were just a little bigger than a dumb phone. Still had a replaceable battery. Nowadays, the only small form smartphone seems to be an Apple, at Apple prices.

So I have a cheapo Samsung A05s, a cheapo Samsung tablet and a laptop. Total cost about the same as that small form IPhone.

My wife loves getting a new phone, my boy loves getting my wife's phone, and I really don't give much of a rat's about a new phone.

My wife is really carful with her phone, I am not.

I have to buy my wife something for Christmas, it's two birds with one stone.

Incidentally, I bought the first mobile phone my wife ever had, I think it was a Nokia 3210. Before that I had to call her at work or at home.

I actually agree that separate devices can make sense for different needs. 👍

But I travel a lot, and for me the whole attraction of a foldable is convenience. I can carry one device that handles calls, messages, maps, photos and then opens up into a much bigger screen for movies, browsing and reading.

I’d much rather have one phone in my pocket than carry a phone + tablet/laptop, along with the extra charging cables and chargers. 😆✈️

It might not replace every device for everyone, but when you’re travelling, having one device that does most things pretty damn well is a big advantage.

Less stuff to lug around, less stuff to charge and less chance of leaving something behind. 👍
