Taking Thai Wife And Baby To England

Featured Replies

I want to take my girlfriend to the UK for a while after we marry early next year. We have a 2 month old baby here in Thailand. I want to plan ahead to overcome any obstacles which may be thrown in our way.

Of course for me there is no problem. Our baby will have UK and Thai passports so no problem there I assume ? It is my now girlfriend whio will be my wife that I am concerned about.

She has had 2 visas to Holland in the last 4 years to see her sister who lives there with her German husband. She has not been to the UK. I do not have a job in the UK. I am not sure how long we would stay. I have property in London which we may or may not use.

Can anyone shed light on any potential pitfalls ? Any issues for her to get a visa to accompany her husband and her baby to the UK ?

Cheers.

Thanks for that.

Anyone actually gone through this themselves ? Either her moving to the Uk or just going for a holiday ?

Use the search function in this forum on the word 'settlement' if you are intererested in moving there to live or the words 'tourist' and 'visitor' if you only wish to visit and it will reveal so many members who have done it or are currently doing it and you should have all you want to know.

I took my girlfriend to the UK this year for a holiday and she had never been out of the country before - no problems getting the visa as long as you can show adequate funds and solid reasons for her return to Thailand after the holiday. I was somewhat apprehensive whilst applying for the visa, not sure if it would be granted or not. As it turns out it all went through without a hitch but the GF hated the UK and couldn't wait to get back home.

Make sure she makes it clear to the embassy why she visited holland or they will jump to their own conclusions. They cant stop her from going to the UK as your baby has the right (british passport) to enter the uk and the Geneva convention states that the mother cant be deliberatley seperated from her child. But they can make it very difficult by refusing and forcing you to appeal

They can be right bar stewards at times - they could say she only married you to get to the uk and even only had your baby for same reason. May seem ludicrous to you but remember thailand is a 3rd world country.

Best of luck :o
