Airport expansion due to start next year

Quote:-

Plans to expand Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi international airport in suburban Samut Prakan province under the airport's second phase programme will cost between 48-50 billion baht and construction is projected to start early in 2008 if there is no problem, airport director Serirat Prasutanond said on Friday.

He said the airport is negotiating with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to prepare the master plan under the phase two programme, in which three major construction items would be made.

If i may be allowed to highlight a further paragraph that is of interest relating to the 2 airport system.

Mr. Serirat said expansion plan under the phase 2 programme could, however, be delayed if all domestic flights are moved to Bangkok's Don Mueang airport. The issue is being studied by ICAO and result of the study should be made public in late October.

Oh dear, this doesn,t look promising regarding re.unification of Int. / Domestic at Suv.

If this is the case, let,s hope they start providing better transport / transfer facilities not only direct between the two but also take into account / consideration, the luggage situation that many usually have on the international flights.

Along with, reliable hastle free services to downtown Bangkok similar to the aircon bus system that was at the D.M pre. Suk days,

why build another airport ,just revamp donmuang .got to be cheaper and quicker to do ..........

Why is this a surprise?

The existing Suvannabhum was always just phase 1. (there's supposed to be a total of 4 runways also).

Admittedly, given they've raised prices by so much that it's cheaper for the Europe-Oz flights to transit in Singapore, I don't know if they need the 4 runways...

after don muang re-opened there is no urgency to develop the new airport that rapidly.

would be viser to fix all the problems, secure the finanses for the next stage, so the new work will be done swiftly and finished on time
