Sorry if this is an old topic but i,m flying to LAUNG BRABANG for 6 days with Thai GF is it better to get visa from LAO embassy in BKK before i go or just get it on arrival and does Thai GF need a visa also thankyou

Sorry if this is an old topic but i,m flying to LAUNG BRABANG for 6 days with Thai GF is it better to get visa from LAO embassy in BKK before i go or just get it on arrival and does Thai GF need a visa also thankyou

Get it at the airport no big deal - probably cheaper (don't have to use an agent) and less hassle than using the embassy. No the GF doesn't not need a visa but she needs to use her passport not a border pass (obvious enough but thought I just mention it!)

ps. it's Luang Prabang . . . have fun

Correct, Thai are in "visa free," all they get is the in and out chops, see my wife's passport attched for this year's runs via Nong Khai-Thannaleng.

FYI, the Thai ID card is good for three days only, and only at certain Mekong River border points, Nong Khai, for example, CRS on the other ones.

Use of a Thai passport, tho, is faster even for day trips on both sides of the river as the Thai traveller doesn't need to wait for preparation of a border pass.
