Ok to cut a long story short- i was very unhappy in my previous job so i gave my notice to leave without completing my contract. They told me my WP and TL would be returned to the relevant departments. They sent me notice of the WP cancellation. I am now at a new school and they inform me that they can get me a WP but i need a TL too and that my old school has not returned it to the MOE.

What can be done to get the TL returned or can the school apply for a new one???

Any assistance much appreciated as i'm very confused by all this!

It is confusing. A TL is made in 2 parts: one for the teacher (which should be in his/her possession) and one for the school.

The one for the teacher 'is made only once'; at least that's what they say. Basically the former employer will return their part of your TL and you will hand over your part to the new employer in order to get a new part for him.

BUT.............. reality is that every time you change employer, they will start the whole process again, including a complete new TL in 2 parts.

In the future you should try to get your hands on the TL (your part) AND the WP. Especially the WP is needed if there is some kind of authority check (you should carry your WP with you), but also if you would like to get a telephone contract (post paid) or buy a vehicle a WP is very handy and even necessary.

Where I work, teacher's can have their TL, but the school keeps the WP. If you need the WP, they give it to you for the designated purpose, but it's kept at the school. We are issued with an ID card and our visa's are in our passport. The school has stated categorically that they pay for the WP and will keep it at the school.

It's never been a problem and people have never been denied the use of their WP.

I've never been clear on the legality of this situation though.
