3 Million Baht Illegal Tobacco Shipment found in Banglamung Furniture Shop.

On Thursday Evening we joined Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutat, the Chief of Special Investigations for Region 2 Police as he conducted a raid on a Furniture Shop on the strength of a search warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court. The team of officers conducted a search of the Ma Furniture Shop in Soi Nong Get Noi 4 in Nong Pla Lai Sub-District in Banglamung. They were looking for tobacco which was thought to have been hidden in furniture which was due to be sent to the Laem Chabang Port for export. The search of the furniture led to the discovery of over 3 Million Baht’s worth of Golden Virginia Tobacco which is thought to have originated from Europe. It is thought the tobacco had been brought into Thailand illegally and it was then set to be distributed around Asia. Two English Nationals had been arrested at the start of the investigation, known only as Jimmy and Christopher who were thought to have planned the illegal shipment which was due to be sent to the Port on Saturday. We understand that the owner of the Furniture Shop, Khun Ma and a worker, Khun Ongart, are in Custody and the investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Thai Customs Authority who believes this shipment is part of a larger tobacco trafficking operation.

no, I don't have a clue about tabacco being imported to thailand and asia from europe - what I know that the direction is opposite (cheap tabacco from asia being smuggled into europe)

Just my own opinion, but I reckon that it's just a smoke screen and that its really counterfreit baccy from either China or somewhere like that.

From personal experience i/d go along with that.

Something else, pound to a penny the guy who sold him the baccy set him up and the baccy will now be back in his hands to resell. :D

Current "fine" for being caught with baccy is 5k baht per sleeve for cigs . :o

Yup ! ... Cambodian stuff ... used to be lots around four or five years ago.

Naka.

That's 50k pounds sterling. How much (volume) is that?

How would one off-load that quantity in Europe - specifically in England, I would think - is 'Golden Virginia' available elsewhere?

Not sure where its available but i imagine its likes the drugs movement, i have just read customs in derby have found a 40ft trailer full of cigs,.all they talk about is the vat evasion, stealing from the government,.they dont like competion !

All the tobacco I have ever heard about here is copy stuff, some very good, which they want to get back to the UK principally.

Bringing it the other way ? pull the other one its got bells on :o
