It is quite common for a major touring act to bring everything to an international gig right down to the road crew's toilet paper.... :o

Reason being: A whole show can be put together without having to rely on local companies for stage layout, lighting sequencing etc. It usually isn't a reflection on the quality of equipment from local rental firms - more to do with getting the show exactly how you want it - something that is impossible for one of gigs in any given country when hiring from local firms.

Have a look at a Robbie Williams global tour. Something like 3 or 4 Boeing 747's.... All the AV equipment is available from local companies, but to put it all together so everything works semelessly for a particular specification & stage is near impossible without weeks of setup & dry runs.

Nearly all concerts in Thailand from a Robbie Williams gig for example down to Morlum in Issan supply their own power...... A major gig like this Linkin Park can draw up to 1 - 2 mega watts of power. The local power grids are just not capable of this extra load on the circuits. An avg. Issan rock concert usually utilises a 250 kva generator.

Cheers!

Soundman.

I was at their last concert at Aktiv Square a couple of years ago... the concrete floor was vibrating in time with the dancing... not a still pair of feet to be seen.

Sound system wasn't great but good enough to get the crowd going.

They are very popular with the Thais.
