My Thai wife is about to make her seond trip to Australia and has a 12 month tourist visa

She has a Thai Drivers licence. so I want to get her an international licence

I have searched the web and can only find references to farang getting international licences to drive in Thailand not the other way

Do we have a Motorng association here in Thailand where we can go to get an international licence, or it something that is supplied by the Government

The place that issued her driving license should be able to issue an International Driving Permit.

I know for sure the one in Phahanyotin (sp) does if you're in Bangkok.

Alternatively I've seen here in Pattaya that the driving schools can get it for you for a fee. So maybe they will in Bangkok too?

yep, IDL can be obtained easily at any department of land transport office if you have a 5 year drivers license.

the other thing you can do in australia is get the license translated (I did it myself) and then get the translation certified. Budget rent a car accepted this as proof when we hired a car down in OZ last Christmas.

Do you have any idea what the price is?

and I logically think if it is an international licence it will be in English

Get a certified translation of the Thai licence....that will be acceptable for a period of three months. check with your states RTA or licencing branch first

Ensure she knows the local rules first and give her a few run throughs before letting her loose on unsuspecting Aussies..... :o

Oh, I read your post, my reply included the important portions of the TV posting that's applicable to both Thai and foreigners:
