Any Realistic "diets" With A Night Owl Lifestyle And Allowing Booze ?

I'm always up late. It could be 2am (early) to 6am with an average around 4am or so. Some of my business means socialising and I cannot just drink lime soda all night.

I know I should cut out snacks but need to replace to hunger fulfillment with something - what ?

Booze - I have actually put on more weight cutting down on the booze.

Exercise - I know I should get back into the gym but with business, a new baby and lack of sleep makes it hard.

Food - this is where I need some help. I love bread, snacks, rice, meat, etc.

So what is achievable. I want to drop from 94kgs to mid 80's at least, so lets say 85, about 10kgs.

What to eat, when, how to get rid of hunder pains etc.

I cannot stop eating rice nor can I just eat meat. I love cheese and bread as well but need something to substitute them in the main.

Anyone got ideas and recipes for stuff that is realistic and not just a dream ? Get me through the day from waking up (5 or 6 hours sleep) and then not feeling hungry but eating too much too late etc. Cheers

Im the same weight as you and seem to have the same bad eating and sleeping habbits, would love a cure to get me down to 83-85ish, let me no if you get any cures, good luck

Well, it's not easy! However, try to cut down on the obviously fattening alcohol. I lost a lot of weight when I stopped drinking beer. I also enjoy plenty of food, however, more fruit and veg and very little meat - and even then no red meat!

Now here's the real difficult bit. Do more exercise. I get to the gym 3-4 times a week, do yoga at least once a week and Tai chi once a week. Even if you can't do this much, introduce a bit more walking, using the stairs, etc.

Oh, and stop snacking between meals. I know nutritionists recommend 'grazing', but I can't do it, I just end up eating too much at more regular intervals! :o

I have just dropped 10 kilos from 95 kg to 85 kg. It took me about 6 weeks. As suegha has said regards alcohol: I stopped drinking Heineken and changed to San Miguel Lights (low in calories).

I bought a large tub of Nutren and drink that about two hours before I go to sleep to avoid eating during that period. Though I appreciate that may not suit your social life. Try it during the day though it is a good food substitute though I would imagine it is not a long term solution.

If you get hungry between meals try and eat lots of fruit and drink lots of water. I found after a couple of weeks that my hunger pains subsided and now I do not get the urge to snack.

What you ask (in the way you put it) is near impossible.

To really lose weight you need to lose you addiction to food. The only way to do this is to FEEL the "pain" of hunger.

Stop trying to avoid the pain of hunger by eating.

Instead of treating the pain of hunger as a problem to be removed, treat it as something you need to go into and consciously feel. Next time you are hungry after dinner do not eat anything; instead explore the feelings you have (focus on how your gut / mouth feel knowing they will not get any food tonight) and don't fight these feelings off. :o

And keep at it, all night, every night, not just for a minute or two and then eat again. :D Do this for a few minutes every time you feel hungry & you know you have really eaten enough. If the hunger comes back 5 minutes later, do it again etc... :D :D

You will find your cravings diminish. :o

Eating too much is an addiction. All addictions are about us trying to avoid pain that we need to feel. If you body is telling you it is in pain the pain needs to be felt, not covered up with an addiction.

So what I am saying is DO NOT get rid of hunger pains, feel them instead! :bah::D:bah:

Of course it is possible to be genuinely in need of food and have hunger pains that need to be addressed with food, but if you over eat then you clearly have other pain (eg: emotional pain in the gut, but not due to lack of food for the day) that needs to be felt, not masked.

Chopper - is switching to San Miguel Light the main change you did? If so, you have just saved me one hel_l of a lot of grief. When I arrived in Bnagkok I was 85kilos and slim. Two years later and I am now nearer 100 and decidedly chubby.

I tried changing to G&Ts for a bit but then a friend informed me that she gained weight doing this due to all the sugar in tonic. In London I drank guinness or red wine but walked a hel_l of lot and never gained weight.

In Bangkok I eat more healthily but apart from a daily 10 minute walk to Asok (and back) I rarely do any exercise. I'm a writer and after an afternoon's writing enjoy a couple of pints or three in the evening. I was a bit dubious about Light Beers and their decreased calories. It is definitely pints of Tiger that have done it for me.

It's 4pm now. I will start my diet at 6pm. Cheers.

Beware Singha Light, it is low in alcohol not calories, and is probably the reason behind my recent weight gain as I drink more of these than regular beers. Funny though I find the lower calorie beers to be too sweet for my liking. Wine and soda may be the way to go for me now.

Go Vegetarian my friend!

I've been on a veggie diet for just over 1 week, and have lost 4 Kgs so far ! I'm now weighing-in at 106Kg :o . My aim is to go down to about 90Kgs within the next couple of months. My advice to U; lay off the booze AMAP ! :D

Ok. Thanks for the warning! I was about to binge on my new diet. Less alcohol but same calories sounds like a bad deal. dam_n. Looks like it's going to have to be red wine. The thing about beer is the quantity you get for the price is perfect for my sipping speed and budget. Spirits get me drunk too quick as I can't seem to slow down.

Alright then, ten minutes to go until my new red wine diet. Tomorrow I will do my equivalent of exercise in London. I go to a huge mall - Paragon is good - and walk for at least an hour. At the end I reward myself with a book or magazine from Konikuniya (or however you spell it).

Interesting way to look at it fire and ice. I'm going to check out your idea. I feel I have quite and addictive personality and as many people I do tend to use food or other things to quench my hunger but as you said five minutes later its back. Your idea sounds a bit like Buddhist/Krishnamurti philosophy to me.
