Crime Norwegian Man Arrested at Surat Thani Bus Terminal After Attempted Crossbow Attack

A Norwegian man has been arrested at the main bus terminal in Surat Thani after allegedly attempting to murder a fellow national with a crossbow in an incident that took place on the island of Koh Samui. The suspect, identified as Mr Elmer, was taken into custody by officers from Surat Thani City Police while trying to flee the province by minivan. His arrest followed the issue of an arrest warrant by Koh Samui Provincial Court (Warrant No. 185/2568, dated 23 June 2025) on charges of attempted murder. The incident occurred on 19 June at a private residence in Koh Samui. According to police, Ms Pia, a Norwegian national and the intended victim, was inside the home along with another man Mr Simon, who was watching a film on the living room sofa. Mr Elmer, meanwhile, was in his bedroom, reportedly heavily intoxicated from alcohol. Suddenly, Mr Elmer emerged from his room in a state of rage and began shouting incoherently. He confronted Ms Pia and a heated argument ensued. Fearing for her safety due to his aggressive behaviour, Ms Pia attempted to call the police. As she dialled the emergency number 191, Elmer briefly returned to his room. Moments later, he reappeared wielding a crossbow fitted with a laser sight and aimed it directly at Ms Pia’s head. As she was on the phone with the police, Elmer fired. The bolt struck her mobile phone, which she was holding to her ear, destroying it but sparing her life. Mr Simon tried to intervene but was unable to stop the attack. Following the incident, Elmer fled the scene. A manhunt ensued, leading to his arrest four days later at the Surat Thani Bus Terminal as he attempted to board transport out of the province. The authorities have praised the swift action of investigating officers, noting that had the phone not absorbed the crossbow bolt, the consequences could have been fatal. US Pushes Forward with Private Aid Plan for Gaza Amid UN Opposition
Fifteen international human rights organisations have called on the Israel- and US-backed Gaza food delivery group, Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), and other private groups running humanitarian aid delivery in Gaza to cease their operations or face legal consequences. In a letter sent on Monday to GHF and the affiliated Safe Reach Solutions and UG Solutions, the rights advocates warned that private contractors operating in Gaza in collaboration with the Israeli government risk “aiding and abetting or otherwise being complicit in crimes under international law, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, or genocide”. “GHF’s militarized model, coupled with its close collaboration with Israeli authorities, undermines the core humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence,” the letter sent on Monday warned. Accident Motorcyclist Killed After Clipping Car and Being Run Over by Lorry in Nakhon Sawan

A 42-year-old man was killed in a road crash on the morning of 22 June, after his motorcycle clipped the back of a car, causing him to lose control and fall into the path of an oncoming 18-wheeler truck in Chum Saeng district, Nakhon Sawan. Police Lieutenant Colonel Kamron Chandit, deputy investigation officer at Chum Saeng Police Station, received the emergency call around 09:30. The crash occurred on the Chum Saeng–Nakhon Sawan road, within the Thap Krit community market area, Thap Krit Subdistrict. At the scene, officers discovered the body of Mr. Somsak Thimpun, 42, lying lifeless on the road with severe injuries to his head and torso. His Honda motorcycle, registered in Nakhon Sawan, was found wrecked nearby. Rescue workers and a medical team from Chum Saeng Hospital confirmed his death at the scene and transported his body for further examination. CCTV footage revealed that the victim was riding at speed when he struck the rear of a Honda sedan, registration from Nakhon Sawan, causing him to fall and slide into the opposite lane. At that moment, a Hino 18-wheeler truck (registration from Phichit) was travelling in the opposite direction and ran over the motorcyclist, killing him instantly. The car was driven by Mr. Chaowalit, 47, while the truck was operated by Mr. Ubon, 51. Both drivers have been taken in for questioning by police. Eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying. One local resident said they heard a loud crash before seeing the lorry dragging the motorcycle along the road, narrowly missing bystanders. “We see him every day,” the witness added, “but no one expected this to happen.” Mr. Niran, the victim’s brother-in-law, said that the deceased had been on his way to open a cooked-to-order food stall with his sister just 100 metres from the crash site. He expressed shock and sadness over the sudden loss but said the family held no resentment. “We would appreciate it if the drivers involved could offer some assistance. He was single and had no family of his own,” he said. Mr. Chaowalit, the car driver, told police he had slowed down behind another vehicle that was preparing to turn and was driving within the speed limit. Mr. Ubon, the truck driver, stated he was travelling at just 40 km/h due to the area being a busy market zone and had no time to react. “It happened in a split second. I hit the brakes but couldn’t stop in time,” he said, adding that he remained at the scene to cooperate with authorities. Police confirmed that both drivers were tested for alcohol and neither had consumed any. The investigation is ongoing, and officers will proceed with legal action as required.
