Well, Pak Chong is sort of the border, I guess, between "Central" and "Issan," right?  We're up to the Muak Lek area, Wang Muang, once a week or 10 days or so, so would be easy to schedule a run to watch the balloons, if it's really taking place.

In any case, just ran across this item.  Anyone know anything about it?  Really on?

Didn't know about that. Sounds an interesting event and a good reason for a couple of days run out in the motor.

I see they have contact phone no's so will be worth a call when I get back.

I phoned the guys up in C. Mai who said the event is "on." Location is right on the Friendship Highway, right hand side, perhaps 10 km past

the turnoff to Khao Yai but before the lake.

The guy I talked to didn't know the km marker # or Lat/Long.

Wonder where they're going to get 30 balloons? Not that many listed at Steve Darke's  www site: http://www.thai-aviation.net/balloons.htm

Sounds like a great opportunity to take the family out for a special day out, and try a wide angle lens on the camera to try to capture as many balloons in the one shot.

I have seen a few of these festivals in England, and they are very worthwhile to see.

All the PH-balloons and HS-FLY on Steve's website will indeed not appear there.

You will see HS-FLY and its bigger sister HS-SMG and 30 other hot air balloons at the http://pattayaballoonfiesta.com/

The Pattaya International Balloon Fiesta 2007 is a premier event to introduce and promote a sport of ballooning to Thai people, while celebrating the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary, 5th December 2007. Besides the balloons, there will be other air shows from the Sport Flying Association (Thailand) and the Royal Thai Army.

And that sounds an even more interesting event and a good reason for a day or two run out in the motor near Bangkok, intumult....

I plan on heading down to Chon Buri for that one, too, 8-12 Dec.  However, need to pinpoint the location: "The event will take place at Thammasat University's Pattaya campus in Chon Buri."

FYI, I sent the two notices out to Steve but no reply as yet.

Sounds cool :o

Now I'll have to re-think but sounds like a few days in Pattaya. Will be good to get the camcorder out on its tripod too.

Thanks for the info as it can be hard to find good and new places / events to go to at times.
