SINGAPORE, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Singapore will buy 12 more Boeing F-15 fighter aircraft to replace its ageing fleet of A-4 Skyhawk jets, the government said on Monday.

The Boeing Co (BA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) planes will be delivered from 2010. The Ministry of Defence said in a statement it had exercised an option in a contract signed in December 2005 to buy eight of the F-15SG aircraft and had ordered an extra four planes.

The U.S. Defense Department said in August it was tentatively planning to sell Singapore up to 84 precision-guided bombs for its F-15 fighter fleet as part of a military package deal valued at up to $200 million.

The city-state, a staunch supporter of the U.S. military presence in the Asia-Pacific region, will spend S$10.58 billion ($7.24 billion) on defence in the fiscal year to March 2008, or 23 percent of its total budget, according to government figures. ($1=1.462 Singapore Dollar)

Yeah I saw it in the paper yesterday - they certainly like their toys down here.

Must make the Thai General's green - then again no - they just look at their 10% and not defence of the realm.
