TAT revealed statistics for tourism in Phuket for first half of year showing overall increase of nearly 9%.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand have disclosed to Andaman News the numbers of visitors to Phuket for the first half of 2007, showing about 2.44 million people, a 8.8% increase on the same period of 2006. They broke them down to about 1.51 million foreigners which was 12.77% more and 930,000 Thais which was 2.9% more. Their average length of stay was 4.83 days, up from 4.71 in 2006. Their average expenditure was 3,952 baht, 10% up. The total revenue was estimated at 44.5 billion baht, a healthy 20% increase. These estimate figures are mainly based on the 611 registered hotels who reported figures to the TAT, with a total of 35,687 rooms, and average occupancy of 66.35%. The top 11 nationalities registered were, in order: Thais, Australians, British, Swedes, Koreans, Chinese, Germans, Russians, Japanese, Americans & Finnish, the latter showing the highest percentage increase of 137%, while Taiwan had the lowest fall of 28%, all in January to June 2007.
