I was surprised to see the #13 ranked Southern Cal Trojans game versus #6 Arizona State game is being televised on UBC tomorrow at 8 a.m. on ESPN. Even though USC has taken a tumble in the rankings, it should be a great game! Hope that Trojans fans know about the game and tune in. Wow, UBC programming seems to be improving its American sports broadcasts by the minute! :o I can't believe it!!!

Thanks for that... if UBC stick to that schedule, 2:30 am Sat is good for me... unless it conflicts with the Premier League :o Funnily enough I just got back from LA, was with another alumni in the car listening to Oregon lose to Arizona, ironically enough this may have knocked the Trojans out of the Rose Bowl... unless Oregon loses again

ESPN has been showing one or two NCAA games a week all season this year – as apposed to no games (not even bowl games) last year. Some have been rather lack luster games, but many of the games have had ranked teams (well at least they were ranked when they played). Here’s hoping they show some of the bowl games – last year they did not even show the national championship game.

The college football coverage has definitely improved this year. Hope that continues for the bowl games. The downside is that the number of NFL games televised locally has greatly fallen off. No Sunday or Monday night games as there have been for many years. None of tomorrw's three turkey day games are on, as far as I can tell.

UBC's coverage of American sports seems to be limited to ESPN's broadcasts and little more. I'm hoping to see a bunch of bowl games but really be shocked if they had more than 1 good broadcast. Don't think they are willing to spend the bucks to pay for network TV broadcasts, especially for the big bowl games. Hopin' they prove me wrong! Meanwhile, GO TROJANS!!! (The team, not the condoms...) :D

:D Of course it's the game but what's wrong with another? They are both American!

The Oregon/Arizona game was also televised and Oregon's QB (Dixon) went down (knee). Don't give up hope yet. It is all up to Brady Leaf and he looked dreadful in relief of Dixon.

LOL... sad for Dixon, he was looking like a Heisman winner up until that point.

The question is - will Booty last the remainder of the season for the Trojans? Frankly, all I care about is whupping UGLY.

I think Dixon is just one of a number of over hyped Heismen candidates this year. Every time you watch a game it seems like someone on one of the two teams is a “Heismen contender”. hel_l early in the year folks were talking about the South Flordia’s QB, and then Kentucky’s QB, soon to be followed by Boston College’s QB. Granted Dixon is far and away a better player than any of these guys, and his Heismen hopes have been shattered by injury and not by poor performance.

I wish just we could turn back the clock and Heismen voting would truly represent voting for the best college football player instead of the most valuable player on one of the top five poll teams, that happens to be either a QB or RB.

If I had a vote it would be for Glenn Dorsey of LSU. Yea, LSU is a top five poll team. But when was the last time a defensive tackle was even in contention for the Heismen? And IMHO Dorsey is the keystone of the LSU defense – no one in college ball can contain this man, mono-on-mono. He is a monster and IMHO the very best college football player this year. This from a Big Ten fan even.

Kind of interesting McFadden is on pace to put up numbers comparable to what he had last year, and he finished what second in the voting last year? This year it seems like the only reason folks are even talking about him when talking Heismen is due to the general lack of other talented RB’s in this years crop.

I sent this letter to UBC and hope others do the same:

Dear Sirs:

I am one of many members from the American thaivisa.com community that would greatly appreciate efforts on the part of UBC Truevisions to broadcast some or all of the NCAA Football Bowl games. These include the Rose Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, and the Orange Bowl which represent the best of collegiate American football teams.

Normally these games are played during the Christmas and New Year's holiday season. Consequently watching these games during these holidays is highly traditional for Americans. In an American home during New Year's, most tv's are tuned to one of these bowl games while having a meal of turkey and stuffing. While it is difficult here to enjoy such a meal at home, it would give Americans here a treat to be able to watch a few of these major bowl games during the holiday season.

While many of us enjoy professional sports, such as the National Football League, NCAA football is played purely for competition. It is about representing the Fighting Irish, the SC Trojans, the Florida Gators, the Crimson Tide, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and a host of other NCAA schools. It is not about money and it is not about personal glory. It is about players' giving their personal best in a team effort to win the last game of football they may ever play.

We realize that the competition for airtime is considerable. We also hope that you realize that there a large number of Americans in Thailand and presenting such games would increase UBC's appeal tremendously. If competitions such as NCAA football bowl games are offered through UBC, it would give many Americans much more motivation to sign up for UBC.

Americans are sports fanatics. All we ask for is an even slate, so we can watch the sports we enjoy as well as soccer, cricket and badminton, which are already well represented on UBC.

Thank you for your time and kind consideration on this matter.

Respectfully yours,

Member of thaivisa.com

Fight on! Go Trojans :o Who the heck is Arizona State anyhow....

TROJANS GET RESPECT (and a chance at the Rosebowl!!!)

Great article on the USC-ASU game!

TEMPE, Ariz. — All the remaining national title contenders should have spent this holiday offering thanks that college football doesn't have a playoff. The lack of a true postseason tournament is keeping USC out of the running for the national championship. But the way the Trojans are playing now, would anyone want to face them at the end of the season? <script language="Javascript">document.write(insertImage('/IMAGES/Coach/PHOTO/1121-USCPETE_250.JPG', '', 0, 300, 250, 1, 'Pete Carroll and the Trojans are back in the hunt for a BCS bowl berth.', 'Rivals.com', 1195793265000, '', 1014, 'Align=Left'));1121-USCPETE_250.JPGspacer1.gifspacer1.gifPete Carroll and the Trojans are back in the hunt for a BCS bowl berth. John David Booty threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth score Thursday as the Trojans reeled off 27 consecutive points on their way to a 44-24 victory over Arizona State. Although the national title is out of reach, the Trojans still can win at least a share of the Pac-10 championship if they beat UCLA next week. "I would love to see us finish up the season and make people wonder who's the best team in the country," said USC coach Pete Carroll, who's now 23-0 with the Trojans in November. The Trojans (9-2 overall, 6-2 in the Pac-10) left little doubt Thursday that they're one of the best, no matter what the rankings say. USC entered Thursday ranked 11th in the BCS standings, but the Trojans dismantled an Arizona State (9-2, 6-2) team that was ranked five spots higher. After battling injuries and inconsistency for much of the season, the Trojans finally are showing why they were the consensus preseason pick to win the national title. "We still think we're the No. 1 team in the country," USC free safety Taylor Mays said. Mays wasn't pleading the Trojans' case for a spot in the national championship game. He knows those dreams ended when USC lost to Stanford and Oregon. He was saying the Trojans remain as good as anyone as long as they're on top of their game. They proved as much Thursday night. Booty is reminding people why he once was considered a Heisman Trophy candidate. His offensive line is finally healthy. One of the nation's most intimidating defenses remains as tough as ever. At least within the Pac-10, the reign of Troy shows no sign of ending anytime soon. USC can clinch at least a share of the Pac-10 championship for an unprecedented sixth consecutive year if it beats UCLA. The Trojans would return to the Rose Bowl if they beat UCLA and Oregon loses one more game. Oregon plays at UCLA on Saturday and closes the regular season next week with a home game against Oregon State. Even if USC doesn't earn the Pac-10's Rose Bowl bid, the Trojans almost certainly will get an at-large invitation to another BCS game if they finish 10-2. Then again, they could have accomplished so much more...
