Desktop Fans Always On

Featured Replies

Just bought a second hand desktop. It's got four different fans inside that never seem to turn off. While in normal use, they all stay running. When in stand by, they all stay running. It's quite noisy, which is annoying. Aside from that though, is there any danger involved with these fans never turning off? And asidefrom turning it off, is there anything I can do so that the fans only come on when it's hot and so that the fans go off while in stand by? Thanks!

If you want to control the fan by temperature you'll need to use and temperature controlled switch and connect all fans to that switch.

I use that kind of switch for extra fans in my Server case because the heat will go up a lot without extra fans. I use 8 HDD's in that case plus 2 DVD's and a Tape Backup!

The normal fans which connected to the MB or Power Supply, would keep running the whole time if not an extra device to each Fan is attached which is controlling the temp!

If your mobo BIOS and fans support PWM control, check out free SpeedFan software at www.almico.com. It's a staple of any overclocker's toolbox. If you need help configuring it, check out the help file which is in the same directory as SpeedFan is installed.
