Ok so one month ago i was in the fine region of Chiang Rai and decided to get my long awaited tattoo done at the night bazaar, following the recommendation of the local people i met.......... BIG mistake!

The tattoo i had was on the outer side of my foot, i asked if there were any complications with having a tattoo done here to which i was reassured not. I was advised to just apply vaseline twice a day after and the guy didn't even bother covering the tat after he finished...... well needless to say the tattoo dropped its colour completely and is an absloute mess.

Back in Bangers i've visited many tattooists to try and rectify this disaster all of which have told me the area chosen for my tattoo is a particularly problematic area and healing is near on impossble and that the fact the tattooist didn't even advise me of this is (along with the use of vaseline!) is reckless on his behalf.

So...... before i go off on one saying the uncensored version of what i think of the original tattoist, i would just like to advise all who go to CR and intend on getting a tattoo....... DO NOT USE THE GUY AT THE NIGHT BAZAAR (positioned behind the main stage) he may speak English and use clean needles but he is a cowboy..... as i discovered to my peril :o

Im sorry but ANYBODY who decides to get a tattoo done by somebody in a night bizzarre really only has themselves to blame. Getting a tattoo ,especially in Thailand needs a lot of consideration. Getting a recommendation from somebody who has had one done and looking at their work is paramount. Just ensuring a clean needle may be a start but Im afraid you have learnt the hard way . Sorry for your predicament. Oters in CR thinking of getting a tattoo take note!

Your response is somewhat predictable- but i did go on the recommendations of locals who had had work done themselves......... my issue is more with the lack of information regarding the location of the tattoo and the aftercare.

My post is merely a warning to others.

What you discovered was that your failure to do independent research and verify the claims of another party before engaging his services had negative consequences for you.

I did ask locals and viewed their work along with reviewing the guys credentials.

AGAIN i posted this as a warning to others, not for negativity!

I don't understand the problem with the use of vaseline. I have my whole back and my upper chest tattooed and i nearly always used vaseline to keep the skin moist and clean.

Apparently its ok after the tattoo is healed but not before as it closes the tattoo too quickly and is ok in colder climates but with the heat in Thailand its not suitable. I had 4 different tattooists tell me the same thing.......... i wasn't aware of this either!

There are two tattooist at the night bazaar, one of them has been there for many years.

My son has had tattoos done there twice in the last four years ( in spite of strong objections from me) without any problems and highly praises his work.

The tattoo was left uncovered but he was strongly advised to keep it moist with vaseline.

This business premises is near the reggae bar on the way to the toilets in the night bazaar.

The place looks clean enough , he sterilises everything and he is a friendly guy to boot.

Maybe he had a bad day.................. sorry for your experience.

ok so when getting a tattoo personaly i like to meet the tattooist and have a good look at his work,i am covered in very good tattoos mostly from thailand,if they are very cheap there is a reason for this,a tattoo does not need to be covered but apply bepanthene for next couple weeks.

Don't mind the grumpy old man.

Welcome to Chiang Rai and Thai Visa.

I’m not grumpy, just discerning and observant. This topic didn’t even draw the attention of our own illustrated man. Besides I was commenting on the general malaise that has settled over our forum, not unlike the haze we are experiencing these days.

Wow, are things really that boring here in the Rai that we have to dig up five year old topics that weren’t even well subscribed the first time around? I guess so.rolleyes.gif

There is a perfect short line comment used in other (not TV) bike forums that I am part of; it is termed 'being accused of thread necromancy'. tongue.png

Making magic by using dead bodies? huh.png

What we should do is set up a roster among regular posters so one has to reply to every topic for a week.

VF can kick it off next week... put me down for sometime next October.

I’m guessing they mean the practice of communicating with the dead.

But seriously what if the topic sucks or is not clearly articulated, do I still have to reply? Do I have to be all compassionate and tell people how great they are instead of taking a more honest approach?

Anyway we might need to move you up to September Scea.
