I have taken a job in Patong starting in the second week in January 08. I am in the process of sorting visa and flights out and would like to find somewhere to live in advance of my arrival.

My wishes/requirements look like this:

one bed appt (real one bed, not studio)

safe area

easy access +/- 10 mins from Patong Beach

Pool onsite would be nice.

Looking to spend max 10K Baht on a longterm basis.

I appreciate that it is high season but being on the ground I am sure people get to hear things.

You will probably find rooms for that kind of money, apartments in mid high season probably command 15k plus.

thanks for that... as I said pool would be nice but by no means an absolute. I take your point with prices. I can go higher but prefer not to... I suppose moving further out will be needed.

Nanai residence on Nanai Soi 2 might be an option. They do reasonable one bed apartments and have a pool. They may want more than 10k, but you may be able to negotiate.

You may need to consider grabbing a studio or something basic in the 10 - 15k range and looking at upgrading in a few months.. After Song Gran and into the summer is the time to tie up one year deals at much better rates and more importantly with FAR better choice.

There were some one beds for 12k up behind sun hill hotel, same for 1 bed bungalow around there... in low season you can look at cocteau apartments (marcel) or even ask to be next in line as those are pretty nice 1 beds with pool access for 15.
