Bring Your Cash To Hua Hin For Bike Week

Featured Replies

Not sure if I am Just fresh white Farang meat in Hua Hin or what.

Lots of harassment going on here. Be shure all you ducks are in a row before you ride here for bike week.

I am not comming after todays two encounters and will now travel on foot.

Be sure you have an international drivers licence helmet registeration passport and money as most do because you will need all of them. You still will need to show your licence to them somtimes more than once in a 24 hour period.

I came here to buy a condo but I will cut my trip short and go home.

Maybe tomorrow I will feel different but just a warning to all.

Thais with no helmets go thru check points farangs with helmets and are light skinned get pulled over .

Oh by the way they have a conveniet payment plan so you will not need to go to the Police station.

I have hear of this going on but am just getting my first taste of it.

Ho Hum .

I guest Its just 400 Baht.

I will get over it

I'm sorry to hear of your hassles. I think insisting on a receipt, or even that you want to go to the station to pay it would have alleivated the 400 bhat (that's the real rip off....whatever happened to the 200 bhat "fine"). Another thing I do is break out my Spanish, which I speak fluently, and frustrate them because I have yet to run across a beat cop that can speak it! How are they supposed to extort me if they can't communicate with me?

Your comment is correct the last time I got pulled over my thai girlfriend said she spoke little english to the police oficer after about 5 minutes of lack of communication he said just go. So now if I do get pulled over she has been instructed that she speaks little english. They use her for extoring money from me no doubt. But I have never had a problem in Chaing Mai. or the Northern areas but oh well live and learn.

I spent a year in Hua Hin, riding nothing but a CBR150, and I lived just meters from a police box. I never got stopped for anything. Would not have asked for a receipt (for a bribe? :o).

Me too, I never got hassled on the road at all. Guess you had a bad day mate.

If it's any consolation I got over charged at the immigration point once doing a visa run.

They got me for 800 baht when it should of been 400 baht.

Why would you want to live in Hua Hin anyway. No landscape and terrible beaches. Thais with an attitude. Come to Chiang Mai where people are gracious and the mountains (when you can see them) are beautiful. Even the police will smile at you while they hold out their hand. By the way, I have a condo for sale that you can't resist.

Ha Hin has landscape; the mountains west of the city, and an entire Gulf. And I still don't think the beaches are terrible. But I ended up returning to Chiang Mai, anyway. :o

The beach is in no way a good standard to boast about, theres no bay to soften the breakers although the horses cantering about are a nice touch.

The thai style there is not Lanna and is a lot more money-minded than CM will ever be.

The mountains are ok but waaay west of CM compared with the Suthep and Pui montains.

Hua Hin always seems to be too much of a sleepy fishing town thats been pounced on by many farangs wanting retirement.

Compared to say other cities that have made the transition with more style and grace.

The biker week is a blast but I'd not want to live their longer than a month or so.

I agree Chaing Mai is for me and that is where I will be. Not 1 problem here.
