I live in Thailand with my Thai wife and have to return to the UK next year to apply for a new 'O' visa, i wish to take her with me for 2 weeks in June 2008 she has had a UK Fiancee visa and was then granted a 2 year extension which expires in January 2008.

Our new home and car are in my wifes name but she is not employed, i have a small internet business, we have a joint UK bank account with approx. 8k plus approx. 30k in investments.

I co-own a house in the UK with my parents and this is where we will be staying.

So i have a few questions that i hope someone can answer for me;

  • Do i need to sponsor my wifes trip or can she show our joint bank account statements as proof of her ability to finance the trip or does she have to show funds in her Thai bank account.
  • Do my parents have to write a letter inviting her to stay in the UK and prove they can accommodate her or can i write the letter inviting her to stay in the UK with me.
  • Do i have to show my income even though we have sufficient funds in our bank account, earnings from my internet business go direct to my bank account so the only income i can show are on my bank statement.
  • Will she have to apply for a tourist or family visit visa.

I am sure i will have some more questions soon!

Many thanks Carl

Your wife's application will be for a family visit as she is both accompanying her husband and visiting her in-laws. The only financial requirement is that there are sufficient resources for the trip. It doesn't matter whether this is from the joint account, your wife's account, or your parents' account. Also, she should show that you and your parents are the co-owners of the UK property and that there will be adequate accommodation for her in the U.K. If the only evidence of income you have is that on your bank statements, then draw this to the visa officer's attention in your covering letter, additionally highlighting the savings which you have.

Thank you Scouse great advise.

Do my parents have to write a letter to the Embassy inviting my wife to stay in the UK or can i write it, also do i have to sponsor her or can she be funding her own trip because of the joint account.

Thanks Carl
