I have a few questions concerning something i know absolutely nothing about i need to be able to run 3 separate computers off my true internet connection. Currently i am using true package 2gb which is delivered at approximately 80% speed. I would like to know if: 1. i can buy a router from another source other than True and it is compatible?

2. if so, can you recommend some better models and can i use wireless?

3. Does it affect the speed negatively?

4. Any other information or suggestions on the best way to run 3 computer

Thanks for any help i need to resolve this asap as i assigned my mother in law and brother in law the left wing of the house and would like to keep the right wing private

You must buy a new Router/Modem because the TRUE one is locked with the firmaware which was modified by TRUE. With TRUE Modem/Router you can use one computer only if you don't use Internet Sharing

2. if so, can you recommend some better models and can i use wireless?

I would use wired connection but you can use wireless as well. I use TPLINK because I can setup 32 Virtual Servers and that's a need for me while haveing a lot Ports to forward. Even the Price for TPLINK is cheap and Lifetime Warranty

3. Does it affect the speed negatively?

Affect to the speed only if more than 1 computer at the same time is connected to the Internet and upload or download data

4. Any other information or suggestions on the best way to run 3 computer

If you want to limit the connection and speed from some of the connected computer, you can do this on an TPLINK easy.

Thanks for any help i need to resolve this asap as i assigned my mother in law and brother in law the left wing of the house and would like to keep the right wing private

I use a Dlink wireless router with my True modem and it works just fine, no need to buy a new modem. I just had to use MAC cloning on the Wifi router so that the True modem thinks it's the pc that was attached previously.

Reimar,

when we started out with TRUE we received a free BILLION BIPAC 5102G router (4 LAN ports + WiFi) from TRUE. It was locked to two connections at a time but we took it to the importer/distributor (Astra) and they opened it up (made some changes to the firmware).

Now we've got all 4 LAN cable ports and WiFi up to a total of 32 simultaneous connections.

That's where for most of the "normal" user's the trouble start's!! Do not expect that others have the same knowledge than you! And just a WiFi-Router or Router and a WiFi AP cost more than a TPLINK Modem/Router 4 port Wireless!

Not to talk about the trouble a "normal" user would have to setup the system to work with an modem with limited features, and the need to setup a Router, a WiFi AP and than cloning the Mac address!!

Cheers!
