Spotted: Bkk Police Switching Over To Cbr 150 ?!?!?!?!

Featured Replies

I thought some of you might be interested, especially you CBR fans (especially considering your 'club' thread is pretty long.)

Actually heading back from Pattaya in a tour bus, I saw what I guess was a police checkpoint, with a tent set up on the side of the road. There was a regular patrol car, and a standard police Tiger Boxer. But there was also what looked to be a brand spankin' new CBR150 in white, still with the "CBR" decal on the front fairing. But it also had the police lights, and the other police bike 'doohickies" on the back.

Maybe we are heading to the good old days like in the states, when both the criminals and the cops were riding the same bike--Harley Davidsons. I really do not know what the specs are on the Tiger Boxer, but on the CBR those of us on NSR's, KRR's, and Yamaha TZ's, should be able to smoke the CBR's if need be. :o

Thai/Bangkok Traffic police has still a lot of motorcycles which need to be replaced, the second big wave of Tiger Boxer 200cc motorbike will be delivered in March. Other police motorcycles you see, with exception of the Honda Phantom and higher cubic volume bikes are being replaced in 2008.

One on one is the Honda CBR150 no match for a Thai police version of the Tiger Boxer 200cc, anybody who wants to try PM me. If you win you get glory and a bottle of Whiskey, if you lose you pay the Whiskey.

Hi :o

Out of curiousity - what happens to the old cop bikes that are being replaced? I am talking about truckloads of Kawasaki GTO's and a few RXZ's, i'd be interested in one of those if somehow available (i see some ex-cop pickups running as civilian now, so i guess they're sold or auctioned - but how, when and where?)

Best regards....

Thanh

As crazy as it may look, most of the older 2-stroke motorcycles where privately owned motorcycles, so I guess the police officer who owns it would be able to sell it. Other motorcycles that are owned by city administration and other government and semi-government organizations would be sold in an auction.

If there is enough interest I can inform members of upcoming auctions, but be aware the motorcycles, and cars, may not be with license plates (But for smaller bikes they are relative easy to get, with some help of Thai speaking friends)

The thai bikes will be faster because of power to weight ratio, when i was racing i asked my mechanic " how can we get a bit more speed out of the bike , his reply was " get on a diet " :o

In Samut Prakarn (Pak Nam), there's quite a few CBR 150Rs used as police bikes.
