To be honest, i don't really like that fizzy cr4p......................but i'll drink it if there is no John Smith's or Guiness around. A man has got to feed his thirst you know.

Well, mine was Chang Draught - although there is no differential on the poll.

Don't like fizzy bottled stuff and can't stand drinking out of a can. The taste of the can overtakes any other flavour.

Keg rules - OK?

I always drink from a glass - I find the taste far more enjoyable that way and it seems to reduce gasiness (burping). Can, stubby, whatever - straight into a glass. Yep, even at the beach, always in a glass. (I have a little wrap around 'condom' that keeps it cool.)

I have to agree Ping. Glass every time - with a head on!

Thin, tall glass or a pint pot?

In my earlier days it was a jar, but now I tend towards a t'in glass.

There. I always thought you were a tiger of taste!

Yes Humph, in a bar in Oz, I drink pints (where available). In th, most bars have the halfs of varying types. Doesn't much matter - I'll drink from a Vegemite jar (sans the yeast extract :o ) sooner than drink from the stubby/can.

Although here in Saudi I can find Vegemite, I can also find pint glasses, with engraved level mark.

Just cannot find anything decent to put in them!!

Never mind, though. I am negotiating to move on to a job in Vietnam. Got to be several steps up, hasn't it?

I don't care as long as it is glass!

I stopped drinking about 15 years ago. To mark the occasion my German brewmaster brother in law insisted I drink a beer to celebrate. I had a Paulaner Wheat beer. I have to say it's the most delicious beer I ever tasted. I'm not going to wait 15 years till the next one. Maybe 5.

Ah, German wheat beer, one of my favourites. It's a taste sensation!

My preference is for dark/black beers.

Neva tried Beer Lao

If I'm not mistaken, Beer Lao also do a dark beer.. I'm sure I saw it at the border a while back.

Totster :o

That would be worth trying!

We have it up in CM at a few of the bars - not very common or popular but I quite like it. Not a big fan of Lao but prefer the dark to the standard Lao. It is a bit expensive though so I stick to my Singha which has been my preferred brew for a long time now.

Other overtakes Chang, probably because you missed the best beer (Leo) off the poll! :D

Too bloody right! :o

I have added Beer Lao and Leo to the poll - send me a PM if you voted for "other" and I will alter the results to put it in Leo or Lao according to your preference.

That'll split the vote so that Chang should definitely come out on top :D

It'll probably split the Chang vote Humph - anyone who drinks Chang :D is likely to also favour a drop of Leo of Lao. Perhaps CB should allow PMs to change Chang votes. I have to say I still find that Chang being at the top of the poll is beyond belief. I mean, they're okay for a change (in small doses) - I occasionally have a drop of Lao myself. But as a preferred regular drink? I think they must all be somtam eaters - no tastebuds left. :o

I have spent well over twenty of the past thirty years in either Saudi or Libya - both no-alcohol states.

So if I have any sort of bevvy, it is home-made by someone.

I have been known to brew / distill / ferment various natural materials in my time, but mostly it is other peoples grot-grog.

So Chang (draught) is fine by me. I usually only have a pint or two a day, when in Thailand, so no great connoisseur of tipple.

Imagine living in an alcohol free state!!! Oh, the horror.

Not just that - not allowed to be alone with a woman/girl unless she's your mother/sister; no cinema; no theatre; if you are a bachelor you have to eat in the 'Men Only' part of a restaurant.

There is a very high incidence of drug addiction here - no one knows why.

And the goats and donkeys are bandy.

Yes it is hard for us to imagine being a poor young girl being raised in such a society. In some cases, I understand, it can be as severe as no schooling, no driving, no male companionship, no employment and wall-to-wall bedsheets for clothing. The blokes have got it relatively easy, even without a drop of the doings. We can only count our blessings that we were born in relatively free societies.

Chang is the biggest seller by far amongst the Thai and farung population in Thailand. We sold 2 Chang to 1 Singha in my old bar - good bang for the buck but not a beer I can drink. Gives me a horrible headache next morning irrespective of how much or little I drink of it.

So far not a single PM from any of the Leo or Lao supporters who presumably voted for "other" before I altered the poll.

Anyone wanting to change their vote (an I will have to accept on face value their honesty) need only send me a PM and I will change the poll accordingly.

Agreed! No society is perfect, human nature and all that, however, we still live in a culture that 'allows' you your freedoms in a reasonably egalitarian way. Let's be thankful.

Don't just feel sorry for the young ones.

In the Eastern Province, Al Khobar and Dammam especially, are many women from 30-60 years old begging at the various traffic lighted cross roads. These are women who have been divorced, or whose husbands have died and their own family do not want them back, or cannot afford to keep them, or whatever.

This used to be unheard of in a Muslim society- charity is one of the cornerstones of the religion. But nowadays there are literally hundreds of these women saying they are destitute. And they avoid the cars with foreigners. Only ask money from the local drivers.

Some of the post above are interesting but sorry to say not relevant to the topic at hand which is beer and which one is our favourite tipple.

I have added a new option especially for Humphrey in the poll

Scrolled up to see and I think I have just swallowed my tongue.

:o

I voted for Chang although it's bottled draught I prefer, usually buy 3 boxes at the start of the month. It's a bit smoother than the standard Chang.

I was musing about what the 9 'others' could be (taking into account that this does not necessarily mean 9 other beers, just 9 people whose beer is not listed). So according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_beer_...ies_in_Thailand, these are purportedly the beers brewed or available in Thailand (I have slightly modified the list as noted and also removed some listing inconsistencies):

Amarit Lager

Amarit NB

Archa

Bangkok Beer

Beer Lao (Ping: added - was not in the Wiki list)

Black Beer

Black Tiger

Carlsberg (Ping: added - was not in the Wiki list; possibly no longer available in Thailand [formerly a popular beer])

Chang Beer (Draught)

Chang Lager

Chang Light

Cheers Beer

ES Beer

Isaan Beer (Ping: added - was not in the Wiki list; n/k if actually yet distributed or whether the opposition to it has been resolved one way or the other)

Klassik Lager

Kloster Beer (Ping: thought this had gone off the market - certainly not widely available in Phuket anymore)

Leo Beer

Mittweida (production discontinued by Boon Rawd brewery as of late 2002)

Phuket Lager Beer

Red Horse

San Miguel Thailand

Singha

Singha 70

Singha Draft

Singha Gold Light

Singha Light

Super Lion

Tiger Beer

I would have thought that other beers might have been available regionally (eg, Angkor Beer and Khmer Beer in the north-east) but I may be wrong. Some of the beers on the list I have never seen nor heard of and may be peculiar to certain regions or of very limited distribution.

E: According to http://beerasia.blogspot.com/2007/06/beers...n-thailand.html, these additional beers are imported into Thailand:

Corona Extra

Crown Lager (Fosters Brewing)

Erdinger

Fosters

Guiness

Hoegaerden

John Smiths Bitter

Kilkenny

Kingfisher

Leffe

Newcastle Brown Ale

Old Speckled Hen

Paulaner

Stella

Tetleys Bitter

Victoria Bitter (Fosters Brewing)

Warsteiner

I'm sure I've seen John Smith's bitter on Sukhumvit soi 5.
