I plan to marry at the end of November (technically not marry since we are working on a fiance visa), and I would like some ideas on where to go. Basically, my fiance has never been outside of Thailand, and I would like to use the opportunity to take her someplace special. This is especially important because once she arrives in the States, she will have to stay put for about 18 months.

We will have about eight nights for our honeymoon. I would like to find a place where either she would not need a visa, or she could get a visa fairly easily. I would consider Australia, but I worry that she won't get a visa to go there. Any other places nearby that are easier to go to?

Thanks.

INDONESIA (BALI)

No visa required stamped on arrival.

NB :o

Somewhere a little less dangerous might be the go. The travel warnings for Indonesia are very high. Any of the Asean countries have bilateral visa arrangements.

borneo would be a nice option.places like Kota Kinabalu cater for honeymooners and has lots of interesting activities to do.

other option could be vietnam some of the islands.

both easy to get to

When we were married, many years ago now, we went to Turtle Isalnd in Fiji. We were in Aussie at the time, so getting to Fiji was a bit easier then flying from Bangkok which has no direct flights to Nadi. It was great fun, arrive at Nadi, transfer to a seaplane for a 30 minute flight up to the Yasawa Islands.Turtle island is quite private and you pay a one off price that includes everything (food, booze, accomodation, activities etc....).

At the time my wife was on a Thai passport and it was visa free.

Thanks Doc, couldn't have said it bettery myself. Although, it did come to mind *before* I remembered where Bali was.

Vietnam does sound like a good option. I have never been there before, so it should be fun for me as well as her I hope. I wonder about how they treat Thai's there though. Is there any racism against Thais?

You want to show her something else, right? Why go to a beach or a hot place which is what she can have and has had for the past probably 20+ years at least. Go somewhere cold, she sure hasn't ever experienced snow. Iceland, Southern Argentina, Switzerland/Austria (in winter), are some ideas...

Very difficult to comment.

Western people like to dream of beaches and palm trees.

Give me one more fckuing palm tree and I go crazy.

If your fiancee comes from a rural area she might be impressed by city life, skyscrapers, shopping.

Also, what do you want to spend? Maldives, Bali, Fiji sounds far away i.e. expensive.

Try Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) For ex. up in the good old Caravelle, somewhere 28th floor or so, overseeing the city and beds so big that you need a compass to find each other :o + US$ 100 /night

(Thai nationals do not need a visa for 30 days, most Western nationals do need)

Nice shopping and not too expensive.

From there go to Danang, nice beaches, sunset. Great to relax.

Try Singapore, big city, great hotels. Some shopping albeit expensive.

Not easy to advice.

Singapore is a great choice..lots of great deals and honeymoon packages, you can go to Sentosa Island as well. It is not far away and I am sure your gf will be surprised to see such a modern, clean, organised city..with friendly, unsegrgated racially diversified people living harmoniously. Have a good one!! :o

South Africa no visa for Thai Passport holders?? are u sure? If it is true great....South Africa rocks..... :o

Confirmed, Thais do not need a visa, up to 30 days' stay. :D

3 weeks ago I read a list of countries where visa is not required for Thai. If u want to show her sth really nice and different from everything she's seen before - go to Hungary. The Capital - Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in the World (especially at night).

I would say she would not get treated very well... they would assume your wife is a "lady of the night", and from what I've heard they can be quite unfriendly, i.e spitting, hissing, general bad looks... ( maybe I'm wrong but I read this somewhere a while back ) :o

totster :D

Yeh ...but think about all the AMEX points you can rack up..haha.

Seriously, a honeymoon is a once of thing, you should not be afraid to spend a bit of dosh for a truly special experience ! I wouldn't pay what we paid for Turtle Island again for a regular holiday.

Snow, snow, snow..........

Guaranteed she will love you forever......

Im with rainman on this.... if you want to please her - bring her someone where its cold with loads of snow.

There is an ICE hotel in Iceland (or one of the Scandanavian countries) that is built from ICE...... yes, its true!

Bring her there!

I would say, once they realize that the 'local' girl with you is NOT Vietnamese the certain looks or stares will fade.

In the hotels, like around HCMC the Saigon Tourist - Hotels, will raise he11 if you should arrive with a VN-lady, but no problem with somebody from another Asian country. They are used to this by all the Taiwanese, HKG and Japan-visitors. Evtl. snide remarks will get lost as you don't speak the local lingo.

daveh;

seriously, if she is a vilager from Issan, you will need to stay in the village for 3 days..... you aren't supposed to leave the village overnight.

Mind you if you tell the family, you need to leave for business to earn more money, they accept that excuse.

I think if you go to the Australian Embassy and talk first, tell them your plans you may be lucky. Maybe.

All great ideas and I do love the AMEX-points (which usually go to wife and son for free trips) :o

The question the OP has to reply himself, of course, is the own budget. Honeymoon should be special but not ruinous.
