Hello,

My wife is currently living in Thailand and I'm in Oz. I'll be travelling to Thailand soon to see my wife again and we're planning a trip to Singapore or Malaysia, or maybe both. Will either of us require tourist visas?

Edit: We're only travelling there for a couple of days, i'm not doing a visa run or extending my tourist visa in any way, I would just like to know what will be required of us when we enter those countries, or if we are free to travel.

Thai's have visa free travel throughout ASEAN.

Please note that you wife will be allowed a shorter stay, than you, with your OZ passport.

Only 2 weeks if I remember rightly.

Thanks for that Astral, my wife wasn't sure exactly what was required, we didn't want to get to the destination and be told we need a visa etc...we'll be travelling in Malaysia/Singapore for less than a week so her visa restriction won't be an issue.

Thanks again.

Hi zidaney:

Don't forget to snap some photos. I took my wife to Singapore in January and the Singapore photo's were the last in the album we gave to the Embassy.

The best quote I recall is from my trip with a Thai g/f to Vietnam...we asked at departur e would she need a visa. The response was "Thai Lady need no Visa to

aisea"

May not be necessary in your case, for a few days, but for others too: when you arrive at immigration in Singapore, go up to the desk together, tell them she is your wife. Then they will give her a 30 day stamp. Otherwise, they sometimes only give Thai ladies 7 days or 14 days.

If you travel from Singapore to Malaysia or Indonesia by surface transport, go before the last day of your Singapore visa, or they might not permit entry. (I know it makes no sense).

Cheers,

Mike
