My (Thai) wife and I are expecting our second child very soon and she has expressed the desire to have, following the birth, what I can only describe as as a traditional Thai sauna.

I've never seen it myself but from what I've heard the mother (post birth) sits in some kind of cubical which is very hot and breaths in the steamy atmosphere (made up of traditional herbs). It is supposedly very good for getting the body back in shape.

Has anyone heard of this? My wife thinks there's a company that delivers these things to your home, but I've never heard of them. If anyone has an experience of this or any information I would love to hear it

Cheers

My wife is about to give birth any day now. She wants the same thing. She wants to get one of those box sauna things from Tesco that is steamed with a rice cooker. She says her mom went through a month of cleansing where she only drank hot water, hot showers, laid in beds that were heated.

Sounds like a strange custom to me. I'm not sure of the medical benefits.
