Granted: Oz Tourist Visa For Thai Wife

Featured Replies

Just wanted to add a 'you beaut', unique, Oz visa story for the archives so that others might benefit. I know that most of the Oz visa threads here benefited me in some way, and this is my thanks to all the top blokes on here who are giving all visa applicants a fair go.

Tourist Visa for My Wife: Essential Details

Visa granted: 12 month multiple entry.

Marital Status: We've been officially married for two years; been together about 4.5 years.

Children: 1 year/10 month old daughter, born in Thailand, and with dual citizenship and passports.

Wife's Employment: Full-time mum.

Financial Details:

  • I live and work at a gov. university in Thailand. Needless to say, I earn less than dole recipients in OZ! However, as part of my wife's application, I attached a copy of my employment service at the uni. I have worked there for almost four years, and definitely plan to continue.

  • We saved about a 100,000 THB 'six week vacation fund' in wife's bank account. We honestly stated this in the application. We contributed slowly to the fund over three-four months. Effectively, we budgeted about $AUS 500 a week for 6 weeks stay in Australia.
  • My parents are providing accomodation in Australia for duration of stay. They sent an invitation stating address and offer of free accom./trasnsport/food etc. They had a Justice of the Peace sign and witness it. Also, they threw in a few pics of the house.
  • We purchased return plane tickets and attached itinerary to the application.
  • We purchased good insurance with NZI in Thailand and attached a copy of the policy.

Conclusion

That's pretty much the core details of the application. We were aiming for a simple, one shot 3 month tourist visa but have ended up with a one year mulitple entry without a phone call from the embassy: very pleased. My only advice to others out there is this: PUT TOGETHER A SENSIBLE, HONEST APPLICATION and you can't go wrong...

Congratulations TheRaja, but I think you probably overkilled it for a mere visitors visa! :o

You probably supplied enough to gain your wife PR with a different form!

VV's really arn't that hard to get any more, as long as intentions are genuine.

Cheers Old Croc, although might we substitute 'overkilled' for 'thorough'? :o

As for a PR, man, that's a long way off!!!
