I just checked and it's up and running. Seems that they have changed the format of the Forum chat. Looks quite nice now!

Maybe the chat was down during the upgrade, but we was not informed about any upcoming maintenance.

Jayenram, please confirm that you can use it now.

Still no luck george. It may be yesterday's quantity of *chang*.

I'm back to receiving the return:

"error: java.lang. ClassFormatError: default (Bad magic number)"

I think I'll head off to the pub and try again later or tomorrow.

Thanks anyway.

Cheers

The Load class Client not found error is among the most notorious of Java applet error messages, and can be caused by a number of different problems. Usually, this problem indicates that your web browser has downloaded/cached an invalid copy of our chat software (cache instability or an error in download). Minor network glitches between your computer and the download servers can also cause the problem. Ninety-nine percent of the time, the problem can be resolved by emptying your browsers cache (or Temporary Internet Files), then shutting down all instances of your web browser, and trying again. In rare circumstances, a reboot may be required.

hi Huski,

Thanks for the answer.

However is it possible to put it in more understandable language (for me,may be)?

At home I am using " Internet for dummies", so you can see where my question is coming from.

Thanks anyway.

I've tried emptying the temporary internet files folder, rebooting but to no avail. I've also tried using Internet Explorer in lieu of Netscape but get the same response.

On Paddy's advice, I re-downloaded Javascript yesterday but still cannot access the O.F.C.S. Same message returned.

I'm getting withdrawel symptoms!

Just wondering, you said the problem was on the 98 machine, but was OK on the XP machine, right?

Huski, could it be the version IE or Java VM that he's got on his old box? Just a thought.

Right!

I've finally got rid of the old Commadore 64 and upgraded to an all singing, all dancing Pentium 4 with millions of magawhistles.

However, still the same "bad magic number" error return when logging on to OFCS.

Considering that everything I am now using is new (hard and software), the only constants appear to be me and my ISP (csloxinfo).

I'm being driven slowly crazy!!
