Anybody know when the first bus leaves to Trat or Chant? I know when the busses go to Pattaya but Pats is quite a bit out of the way...and takes a LOT more time thru Rayong...

NO, not quite like that.

As changes may occur all the time: google for canbypublications, these guys do a free tourist-info-booklet on Koh Chang, and the full text is also on their website. It includes a full overview of all routes to Trat ex BKK: also from Swampy/Busstation. All these Trat-bound buses come from Mochit, use the motorway, and als serve Chant. besides these there are aslo a few buses terminating Chant. Nearly every hour allthogether, but with gaps, and check yourself fir the very 1st of day.

Unfortunately, with a 7am arrival, it will mean a 2 hour wait or so.

I found that - for Thailand, this seems up to date (usually, Thai transportation info is "stale" - VERY stale, 2 or 3 YEARS old a- nd when one tries to rely on it, it proves to be inaccurate)\
