Sopranos - Now You See It, Now You Don't

I've been enjoying the reruns of the Sopranos, having missed many of the early series'. I was therefore dismayed to see in next month's magazine that it's been dropped from the scheduling.

Maybe i imagined this, but i thought when they started the reruns they were proudly advertising that they would be showing every episode from start to finish.

Does anyone know whether this is a temporary break, to allow for other programming, or is that it?

You might consider buying the whole series on DVD which is sold cheaply all over Thailand. I bought the whole thing and have watched it over and over with no commercials and at my leisure.

Well to be fair, HBO has no commercials either, and seeing as i record it, i too can watch at my leisure.

In my experience, DVDs like that tend to have terribly bad Thai subtitles that often make no sense at all, and that is a problem for my gf who is likewise a Soprano addict.

I bought all six series from MBK recently and have been watching them all - i'm hooked. I never saw the originals on TV.

My missus reckons the subtitles are excellent, unlike most recent movies.

I had seen the DVD's quite some time ago, but they were really, really expensive. Just how much are they now?

They were 50 baht per disc in a really nice boxed set the last time that I looked at the Burmese border. In Thailand, they are more like 70 a disc, but with more programs per disc.

At MBK, they are more expensive, but less likely to have any bad spots.

Look for Down Under, Oz, The Sheild, West Wing, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Wire, Lost, 24 and others. I am totally hooked on watching all the series that I missed in Thailand over many years. The Sopranos is probably number one though! :o

Gee the only show on HBO I tune in for ... along with those adds they were going through all 6 seasons. Donk! Too bad as Ritchie's wedding to Tony's sister is due up this week. That is one episode to watch and rewatch :o marry a Soprano at your own risk.

Still the musical score on the HBO asia's Sopranos is different in quite a few places. I have no idea why they alter the music! They also censor dialogue and have actually cut out sections. In last week's part 2 ... Tony is try to keep a low profile, following his lawyers advice, at Barron waste manegement. If you have the DVD you know he ends up bonking that little jesus freak office assistant. They cut that out completly.

Spooks and Judge John Deed are excellent from the BBC.

HBO Tony would probably say 'dam_n them, they are freakin breaking my back'

Still a brilliant show despite the censoring and cut scenes.

No one breathes noisily through his nose like Tony does. mmmmmmffffffffff mmmmfffffffffffffff mmmmfffffffffffffffffffffffffff

No one shifts from one leg to the other like Sylvio does. (Used to be Bruce Springsteen's guitarist)

No one is as much a prick and a granny killer as Pauly is.

Best series I've ever watched.

Yeah, more expensive at MBK. I bought the first three series (12 discs) for 1000 baht. A 100 baht a disc with two thrown in free.

The last three series was more expensive . .I think around 1300 because season six is much longer and I think the entire three series has 16 discs.

First class quality though .

One to hold, rewatch and cherish forever.

If you like the Sopranos you should take a look at

Deadwood - a western (as in wild west) series

Entourage - the male version of sex and city

Posted

I remember when the final episode was aired sometime last year in the US

it was billed as the 9th series I also have 6 series on DVD so whats happened

to the next 3 ? if indeed there are 9 series why is HBO ASIA only got as far as

repeating series 1 and 2 The other HBO series Entourage Deadwood etc generally

are shown in Asia a few months after the US so why is The Sopranoes, arguably the

best US series ever, not been given the TV respect it,s due

Sopranos running on HBO Signature too. (On tonight)

And if you don't want to know what happens, don't read the synopsis in today's Bangkok Post!

much as I dislike douche bag Piven, I have to say entourage is a very very nicely put together show.

well worth it, I will take up your suggestion on Deadwood, although have also been hearing good things about Flight of the Concords.

Try watching ROME both series 1 and 2. Tremendous acting and great scripts. If you enjoyed the Sopranos, you will definately enjoy this series.

I trust the bogus DVD dealers more. They have series 1-6, but 6 is divided into part 1 and part 2 which are the last two years with less eposodes than previous years.

My role is to keep our lawyers in work . . . by buying fake DVDs I not only keep them busy, but also ensure my annual performance bonus is maximised .. . ;-)

I thought it was funny that I read that Thailand was complaining that the US kept them on the list of the worst of the worst IPR violating countries. They aid that they been doing so much to prevent it. :o Walk down many streets and you see fake ones everywhere. Go to Fortune town or any other hi-tech mall and see store after store selling fake cds, movies and software. I think until these are cleaned up, they are going to be on the list.

Most tv stations and local cable TV are piracy champs as well.

What can you do when cable is owned by a judge? :o

HEY HEY HEY!!! watch what you say about Paulie.... :D

He wasn't ALL bad.... he had good points about him, too!!!!

It was that greedy, double-crossing SOB Johnny Sack from New York that was the real b@stard...

-------------------------------

To the OP... sorry to hear about the viewing disruption...

The series started after I had left the States... but I found it online in downloadable format... and watched every episode in very quick succession last month...

because, as in agreement with Tony, .... it IS a d@mn good series.

p.s. the website that had every episode for download has since been removed. I'm sure there are others, but this one in particular had first class video and audio quality.

-------------------------------

Now then, Tony....

Take back what you said about Paulie before you get whacked.... :o
