I know that a retirees visa can be obtained which allows someone to live in Thailand indefinitely, but I wasn't aware that you still have to front up to immigration every three months. What a hassle! What if you're living in a village miles from the nearest immigration office? What's the point of this three month visit, is it to verify that you still have money in a Thai bank?

My understanding is that if there isn't an Immigration office nearby/convenient, you can satsify the reporting requirement by going to the local police station. Also, the Retirement Visa doesn't let you stay indefinitely, and has to be extended every year as well.

Note that Thai law requires you to report/verify your residence every 3 months, regardless of what visa you have.

Be glad that you only have to report to a local Immigration Office/Police station every 3 months, and don't have to do border runs every 3 months (and still have to report to Immigration 60 days later to get a 30 day extension) !

I believ the point is to verify your address since they dont ask anywhere on the form about money. Also you dont have to report to a Immigration office or police station as you can do the 90 day reporting by mail.

There needn't be a "point" to the requirement to make an address report to Immigration every 90 days, it's just the law.  Lots of countries have such, the U.S. does, but it's an annual deal.

And, you do not have to "report" in person to immigration, you can mail in the report, that's what I normally do.  However, BE SURE to scan what you're sending in, and BE SURE to save the Thai Post EMS receipt and tracking number to ensure receipt by immigration.

This requirement is only for persons in Thailand for 90 days or more, thus if someone is on a Tourist visa, not a problem as they'd have to depart NLT day 90.  Same with people on the "90-day shuffle," the Non-O or Non-B multiple entry visa where they also have to depart every 90 days.

Many of us are hoping Thai immigration sees the light and offers ONLINE three month address reporting in the future.

What ? And lose out on the revenue (I think it is 1,900 baht to get the 30 day extension) ?

If they were smart, they would let you get the 60 stamp at the Immigration Office (for a fee) and then charge you again for the 30 day extension. Or just give you a 90 day stamp for a little more. They could easily set it up to pay over the internet, or through an ATM like you can do with many other debts.

It would put pretty much all the visa run companies out of business overnight, but I'm sure the sudden increase in revenue that the Immigration department would realise would also help them sleep better at night (and not worry about the fate of the visa run companies).

It sure would simplify things (which means it likely won't ever happen). :o

Oh, come on. If they required a photo of our buttocks, we would still be free to wonder about the point. We may live here but we are still free to whine and wonder, OK?

Huh? 90 day address reports are FREE.

Persons who stay on 90 day multi entry visits do not have to make address reports. Only those who stay longer than 90 days without leaving have to do so. Every entry restarts the 90 day count.

Have you actually done it on-line? I have not seen any confirmation that it works yet.

Apparently it's not working ? I haven't tried it, as I haven't been in a position to have to report (yet). Not sure what (if anything) would happen if I tried to report when I wasn't required to (probably nothing). (I just tried to "send" it blank and got a pop-up telling me I hadn't filled in various blocks. Didn't fill in any of them actually !)

Odd that it doesn't work. I remember this being up (and discussed) ages (1 year, 1 1/2 years, more ?) ago. I thought it would have been a done deal by now. Wonder if they are even aware that it isn't working ?

Relax...

Like it has been said..for retirees it's only to report your current address.

I did my 90 day report the day before yesterday here in Chiang Mai and it took less than 3 minutes.

And , as said many times , do it by post.

I live 170 K away from my nearest office and do it by post.
