I have seen this question asked before. although i haven't been in phuket for a while, i think it is impossible. but, if you own the boat, you can get a thai local to be your captian.

correct me if i am wrong, but i tried to buy the white boat in the field just north of chalong circle (far coff), but i was told i couldn't drive it, only a thai can drive it (from a thai mechanic)

also, a friend was about to buy a new jetski, but he was told he couldn't register it. Think they are being outlawed.

If you find out if foreigners can own/pilot their own boats, please let me know, as I want to buy one.

But I really don't want someone else to drive it.

I am in Samui, I have been told and given a price to get your Boat License in Suratthani, its 1,500 baht for Thai people and 5,500 baht for us. Ill try to get the full details for you in the next few days, if no one else comes up with something in the mean time.

I bought of 24' Crownline bowrider and imported it from the USA last year. Registered it and got a boat captain's license, no problem.

That would be much appreciated, thank you.

as long as you own the boat and you are not planning to use it for commercial use there is no reason why you would not be grabted a captains licence assuming that you pass the relevant exams

of course these may take the form of a "contribution" rather than an actual exam given where we are :o
