I did a search and saw a recent thread about having problems getting a tourist visa in Penang. I had two tourist visas issued in the US (where I am from) and once the second expires, I will be going to Lao and plan to get the free 30 days. When that is over, I would like one more tourist visa as my total time in Thailand is only going to be 6 months. I have a ticket home but it is from Singapore and not Thailand. Do you think that will be a problem? Am I taking a gamble going there? I could just leave and do the 30 day thing twice more but have no plans right now to leave Thailand other than for my trip to Luang Prabang. Extending my 2nd visa will not help either as I will be going to Lao as that one expires and wouldrather not pay 1900 baht to extend and then 1000 baht for a reentry permit.

If you made it to Vientiane, you could get a double entry tourist visa.

Thanks! I will not make it to Vientiane. I am just doing a three night trip and plan to fly in and out of LP.

I also don't really need a double entry as I don't plan to leave Thailand for my last two months.

I was looking at Penang only because I am going to Samui and can fly from Samui to Penang and then back to Bangkok so I would only be adding one more flight.

go to vientiane and buy directly a visa as a border run will cost you already 1500 bath to enter lao(as far as i can remember)

penang seems problem less nowadays but to be sure mail one of the agent or a guesthouse on the place they'll be able to answer you, i gave email adresses in another post related to penang visa.
