I sent the email below out a couple days ago regarding check-in procedures for EVA here at Swampy and in the U.S. coming back.  Bag SIZE seems to be more of a problem that weight!

Any recent experience?

I'm particularly interested in how EVA handles the bag size Q at the U.S. end during the check-in procedure. Do they wander around with a tape measure to inforce their 107 inch combined max for two bag rule?

See below what I wrote a few days ago.

When are you coming back to the LoS?

Now this sucks, I think, if I'm reading it correctly. Note attachment.

#1 Bag on the right is: 10.5" x 22" x 32" = 64.5"

#2 Bag to the left of it is: 10" x 19" x 30" = 59"

#3 Bag #3 to the left is: 8" x 12" x 24" = 44" Sunee's

#4 Bag on the left is: 7" x 14" x 21" = 42" Mac's

Last trip to the U.S. I downsized one bag and left it in the U.S., no problem, LARGE one. Used the two bags on the right for return travel. They total 123.5". Looks like, from below, that I'd be "oversized" if I tried this again.

I might be able to squeeze by with the large bag #1 & #3, Sunee's, if someone sat on it while the airline folks measure even tho it's over the 62" bag max and total size being 108.5".

When did the <deleted>' airline(s?) downsize? They in cohoots with suitcase manufacturers to force the travelling public to buy buy buy??

I'm OK on weight as bought ticket back in February.

Free baggage allowance

http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/english/tip...ice/Baggage/#a3

The baggage allowance depends on airport and destination. Two allowance systems are in use:

Piece System:

For travel to and from the US and Canada and certain countries in South and Central America, the baggage allowance is per piece:

Evergreen Deluxe / Elite/ Economy Class: Maximum of two pieces of baggage. The total baggage size, measured separately and added together, cannot exceed 273 cm (107 in.) The sum of the three dimensions of each individual piece cannot exceed 158 cm (62 in.) and the weight of each piece cannot exceed 32 kg (70 lb.).

Note: The free allowance remains the same as above for passengers holding tickets issued before 2008.04.15.

For passengers travelling and holding tickets issued after 2008.04.15, the free allowance on Evergreen Deluxe Class and Elite Class will be 28kg/61lb. per piece and on Economy Class will be 23kg/50lb. per piece.
