May 29, 200817 yr Has anyone here sent their kids to American School of Bangkok? How is it? It's had a very spotty and colorful reputation over the years. I have worked with several teachers who have said that the ownership are completely insane. Teachers are generally the best people to ask regarding their experiences at a school. If the teachers are generally happy, then chances are it's a well run place, and the students are likely to get a reasonable education. One of the more interesting stories about the place is that the owner's husband, many years ago, was the Thai ambassador to the Netherlands (I think it was) and he tried to sell the embassy to the Dutch government, even though he had absolutely no right to do so. He was recalled to Thailand immediately!
May 29, 200817 yr ... is that the owner's husband, many years ago, was the Thai ambassador to the Netherlands (I think it was) and he tried to sell the embassy to the Dutch government, even though he had absolutely no right to do so. He was recalled to Thailand immediately! My memory is bad at the best of times, but ISTR that he did sell the Thai embasy in Den Haag (not to the government), got the money and got caught. Or not.
May 29, 200817 yr Very poor academics according to a friend who spent a year there. He said that the students were quite dumb so they water the curriculum down and he maintained a 4.0+ with no effort.
May 29, 200817 yr Formerly known as Didyasarin International School. Tried to sell them computers when I was still in that business and the only thing that was important to them was that the owner's daughter "needed" a computer. I threw away the contract. And yes, the reference to the Thai ambassador to the Netherlands is correct. That says nothing about the educational standards, mind you - but others have already covered that part nicely, I'd imagine.
