Ulysses G.
The Chiang Mai Orchid has a nice swimming pool (and gym) right next to a big shopping center which is good to visit after a swim.
quadisking
You must check out 'Huay Toong Tow' ('The Lake'), a little bit out of Chiangmai but big and beautiful. It only costs 20 baht to get in (same for Thais) and they serve food and drink in little huts. Closes around 6pm.

sweetchariot
Check out the moat that runs around the old city walls. I hear they clean it regularly and is very good for swimming.
wimpy
There are NOT any snakes in the water that are dangerous, or even plentiful. I used to see Banded Kraits (very dangerous) in my fish pond in Mae Rim. Why wouldn't they be in Huay Tung Tao? Bungarus fasciatus (Banded Krait) Thai: ngu sam liam Length: Up to 150 cm Occurrence: Whole of Thailand Behaviour/habitat: The banded krait is mainly found in lowlands and hilly areas. This animal has also been discovered at heights of 2300 meters. The snakes are residents of open plains, fields, grass lands and woods. They often live near to water. These snakes try to avoid sunlight. If they are pushed out into the sun, they throw their body around and hide their head under the body or try to flee into the shadows. During the day, these snakes are too lazy to bite and on snake farms, they are simply pulled out their nests by hand and shown to the visitors. According to statistics, around 50% of the bite cases happen in this way during the day. These snakes feed mainly on other snakes. They do also eat lizards and rodents. The snake is nocturnal. Strong poison, deadly!

Ulysses G.
I met a French guy who got parasites from swimming in a lake that he says are now in his brain and slowly killing him. He told me that he had to fly back to France to have them treated, but then he got in an auto accident and is in Suan Dok Hospital. I'm not sure if they can treat the parasites there, or not. Yep. Had those around the property as well. Never saw them in the pond though. Used to scare the heck out of me when the dogs would corner one! Ah yes, woe unto all those who fall victim to the brain eating amoeba. Usually fatal within two weeks as your brain gets liquified and sucked up. ataloss
If you are out Rimping-Rimchoke way, there is a lovely pool at Siriporn Village 2 on the right just before the village security hut. Costs 20B - clean friendly with laundry and thai eatery. As you head out to Rimchoke 1.5 km from the SuperHwy/RamII intersection, continue past Rimchoke for 2.4 km to the next set of tfc lights(new Bypass), turn right and go 1 km further; on the left you will see a large green sign with a golden number '2'. Turn in and the pool enclosure is a few meters along on the right. No snakes-in-the-grass. Cheers...

Maybe someone else wouldn't be impressed, but I was somewhat shocked at the size, especially considering Smile House charges 100 baht for their wading pool. ChangMaiSausage
Lake for me a great relaxing lazy day eating, swimming, drinking (not in that order) and I can confirm seeing a snake in lake (poet) so did several thai's who ran out of the water double quick, I don't know what type of snake it was as it was a few meters away sliding across the water.
