I'm leaving Chiang Mai for the bright lights of Bangkok this weekend, and I'm looking for some recommendations.

First is somewhere to stay. don't want to pay much more than 500 baht a night, but want something clean and comfortable. Don't really care where it is, although Soi Rambutree is quite nice. any recommendations are much appreciated.

Second is pool halls. I've played in gullivers before (dam_n those girls are bad losers, and ugly as hel_l too!) and the bar on Rambutree that stays open late, but where are the other good pool halls? Preferably american tables please.

Third is Muay Thai. I've been to Lumpini, and it was pretty expensive. What is my best bet for some cheaper, but still good muay thai this weekend?

Any other recommendations about anything are more than welcome. what's hot in bkk?

Any info on getting to Koh Kret would be welcomed too.

Thanks

500 a night for an air con room.

Boxing at Ratchadamnoen Stadium, will always be expensive unless you can persuade them to give you the Thai price, get 3rd class tickets for the best deal.

Excellent pool halls are everywhere around the main touristy areas, although it sounds like you want to stay nearer Khao San, which isn't so good for pool. Quite a few Nana bars have lots of winners' stay on table - great if you're luck's in and you're only playing stiffs. I still haven't played a Thai girl who's any good yet though - they can point and poke effectively enough, but don't seem to be able to read patterns of play etc, which is weird as they presumably just play all day, every day.

The Irish bar on the middle of KSR has a reasonable winner stays on table.

Where do you play in Chiang Mai mate? Lack of decent American pool tables was the main reason I left.

for thai boxing the best deal in town has to be the thai tv channel 7 beside mor chit skytrain across the road from chatuchak market.

get there about 1:30 at the latest on a sunday afternoon, boxing starts about 2:00 clock, the place gets packed, plenty of betting going on, fights are of a fair standard, but its free to get in.

if you get the skytrain to mor chit, come out the station and walk towards lad praw rd, the tv station is on soi18 or 18/1, sorry cant remember which one, its about a 10 minute walk.

if you dont want to walk, get a moto say taxi, tell him, muay thai tee chong jet ( thai boxing at channel 7).
